Why do some posters alway copy several other postings while replying?

I can see if there is a change of topic or it went way off topic, but some almost always repost and sometimes several posts before they write three words. Obviously not the end of the world, but just adds time to reading threads and have really never encountered this on other forums.

    Just curious why?

    Thanks men!

Another drawback of "rolling your own" forum software. Most established forum software will only quote the person you're directly replying too. Also, most forum software has options that can prevent a person from replying to a long ass thread with just a one word reply.

Yeah, but you can always delete the unnecessary text that has been quoted. I do that all the time. All it takes is a little effort. Therein lies the key I think. People just hit reply because it's easy and then start typing. They don't actually care what shows up on the forum - in most cases. The other cases are people that just don't understand computers all that well. icon_smile.gif

If you quote someone you capture their post, especially in the hot-headed topics where people go back and change their post a week later. icon_wink.gif

We've seen that with topic titles as well. A question is asked, people say yes, then the opposite is edited into the title and it looks like guys are agreeing to exactly what they weren't. O.o

If I want to quote someone, I edit the post first so that only the relevant line of the quote remains.
This leaves me free to reply with one word if that is all it takes,

In long threads, I've seen people respond without quoting, clearly answering what someone posted but doing nothing to make it clear whose post they're responding to. It can be more than confusing, but simply pointless and puzzling for other readers.

I try to edit when I'm responding here if I feel some quotation is necessary, but the quote function here doesn't always make it easy to do so in a way that works. On occasion, I've tried and just eventually given up because I couldn't get it to work properly.

I do it to show what exactly I'm responding to in a previous poster's post.

Hey Heartrobb, figured someone would do that! Thank you for not disappointing me!

I understand common sense reasons for sure, based on context, etc., is when they do every time, every pic, and so on. Just makes it rather cumbersome for those of us with ADD! Hahah

I know! It drives me INSANE! Well, not literally. I haven't been institionalized because of it, SO FAR! But if I am, I'm going after those guys when I'm released!

    But seriously. It's really annoying.

You know, there is an edit function that permits you to go back and fix misspellings or change anything you want to change.

Is there some reason why you can't just skip past the part of the post that starts with, "So-and-so said:" ?

Also, some guys respond to the OP, while some guys respond to what other posters said, so quoting the text to which you're responding makes it clear to whom you're responding. And, you may quote me on that.

BTW, if you find something this inconsequential really annoying, I can't imagine what you WOULDN'T find annoying...
