The whole "it gets better" thing is annoying. It would be great if people would just stop saying "it gets better" and simply start treating people better. No need for an apology.

    Me too, I agree!
Why wait for celebrities to ask us to teach respect to each other? Its common sense, which unfortunately a lot of people dont seem to have.
    Dont wait for it,

Well you do know Christians are all human, and no human is perfect, not even your narcissistic homosexuals/bisexuals. left wing atheist can also be very hatful and spitful to, so all the hate and anger just does not come from conservative Christians.

But I can tell you as a pure homosexual who grew up in the bush, and anyone who would done a pair of white socks, got beaten up, because only a poofter would wear white socks, things do get better.

Thanks but as a pure homosexual, I don't need any apology, as things got better. As I look out the window into my garden I think to myself. What a wonderful world.

I understand your point and it is a very valid one. We should all live by the golden rule of do unto others. This campaign is not for us. It is for the lonely depressed youth out there that might see suicide as their only option. When I was growing up, I did not have any gay role models. We cannot just ignore the rash of teen gay suicide.

In regards to the above clip, I'm hoping that a lot of Christians see it and that it will make them think more about all of this....maybe opening a few minds.

I agree that teenagers are committing suicide. And when the kids happen to say they're gay when they're doing it, it's getting a lot more publicity. I don't think kids are offing themselves in record numbers compared to any other decade. We're just hearing more about it now because it's a hot topic.

When I was starting high school about 12 years ago, we had at least 3 to 4 teenagers committing suicide every year. A few of them were gay, and most were straight.

The teen suicide fad reminds me a lot of the school shooting fad that was going on while I was in high school. Once a few idiots in Columbine, CO decided to take action on their bullies, an epidemic of school shootings swept across the US. It became a fad for all the kids who were picked on in school to get the attention they thought they finally deserved. Now the fad is to hurt a lot fewer people (physically) and commit suicide. It gives the kids the attention they feel they deserve, and permanently solves their temporary problems. In another 10 years, there will be a new fad for the narcissistic homosexuals to express themselves, and the media will pick up on it and either tell them to stop (if it's harmful) or encourage them to do it (if it's positive). The thing is, we don't hear about it if it's positive. Only if it's "in" and can make for good media.

Maybe a video of some political figure or comedian telling a kid "your life will get better" will delay someone committing suicide. Maybe there's a slight chance that it will stop them from doing it. I just doubt it heavily.

I'm guessing it's someone who "grew up in the bush" (whatever that means), or someone "who would [wear] a pair of white socks, [or] got beaten up."

Exactly. This message is not for you (pyro & gigolo).

The "It gets better" message is for those who are seriously contemplating suicide. And for some strange reason... people DO listen to celebrities, sports professionals, etc. concerning certain issues.

Don't like it? Do watch the videos. But Dan Savage and others are actually trying to do something to reach out to those who are on the brink of slitting their wirsts open. Exactly what are you doing?

Christians, like most people, would do better if they worked on their own frailties rather than other peoples.

Probably about as much as you.

The message is being sent to the general public. If it's supposed to be such a targeted market, they'd send the message specifically to the target market. Instead, the message is being posted everywhere. I'm simply stating an opinion on the overly-mass-produced message.

Would you mind showing me an instance in the media where someone came out and said "My life sucked and I wanted to kill myself up until I heard Dan Savage tell me that my life will get better. Why didn't I think of that ahead of time? I'm shitting rainbows and unicorns now!"
Nah, instead they're saying "Yeah, right" and cutting themselves, just like teenagers have been doing for a long, long time.

110% homosexual, as a bisexual can never be a pure homosexual. Thus no bi in me, as I am a pure homosexual, and a bi is not. Thats what the fuck.

But.....the fact that you have had a wife, and lived the straight life, and now you live a gay lifestyle, I understand why you may never understand, as you have never lived your whole life as a pure homosexual, as I have. Also with all of your anger you have forced upon one, I'm left with no doubt, that during your time as a pseudo heterosexual, you where just as abusive toward homosexual, because of your own issues.

No sunny Jim, I myself who has lived my whole life as a homosexual, see many differences to my half brothers the bisexuals, who are neither pure straight, or homosexual. Not that I'm saying there is anything wrong with bisexual men, but we are diffrent. For one I have never had the respite, and acceptance of having a wife and kids for one. Or even just having girlfriends to hide behind. I have no issues with this, but you may well. we are not one or the same.

What are you talking about? All a suicidally depressed gay person has to do is wait for school to be over then BAM - all the issues externally and internally with being gay go away and to top it off you get a bf and a successful career!

Funny in fact the last time I was in a Christain Church to listen to Sy Rogers, that was a big theme of the message.

yes I am a pure homosexual, no doubts about it. I am also secure with in myself, and don't feel threatened by Christians or conservatives, they have no need to say sorry to me, as they have a right to belive what they want and to also vote how they wish, I don't seek their approval, because I know God does not hate fags, and being a pure homosexual, one is also a fag.

Oh and from surviving the 70's when so many gay men where unknowingly infected with HIV, to surviving the 80's when we knew all about it, when so many off my peers did not. I have now lived long enough to know things do get better.

that's a great response to someone else's post.

it's like every post you make is laden with your own daily assertions of how gay you are, I don't think anyone would be questioning your sexuality......or I don't think anyone WAS questioning your sexuality until they noticed all the subtleties of your posts.

I'm not trying to be an asshole, but why do you feel the need to constantly assert your status as a "pure homosexual"?

Matey it's like you have just said "you always!" When one does not always. I try to come from my own perspective, and experiences, and I have had many. But it is only when one comes to RJ, I am faced with bisexual men who now have a boyfriend, and in the past have seemed to be breeding hetrosexuals, and now just because they now live the gay lifestyle, they feel they are now pure homosexual, and the same as I. But in fact they are still bisexuals only now living the gay lifestyle, and not the straight one. We are not one of the same for many diffrent reasions.

Look at the movie brokeback Mountain, it was toted as a gay love storey. yet it was never a gay love story, it was a bisexual one, about the complexities of bisexuality in the 1960s, and in many ways it's still the same in many places. Saddly for many of them, things never get better.

Oh and one has never considered you an arse hole either.

The "It Gets Better" campaign simplifies a complex issue.
Kids are bullied for a variety of reasons, and it's not just gay and lesbian teens. Overweight kids, kids with acne, the skinny kids...all can be bullied. Plus, a 16 year old is not going to listen to 90% of these people. Actions speak louder than words, and perhaps some of these posters should serve as a mentor. Everyone can learn something from it (I did).

Suicide is far to complex to believe a 30 second hang in there video can fix it.

It is not all about you. I hope that you do realize how hard it is for some GLBT people, especially GLBT youth, to do deal with the society pressure to fit in, to be accepted, to not want to be harassed or harmed for being who they are, to not want to be rejected by their family and/or friends, etc. For many, it is just too much. Our experiences vary and please understand that other people may be facing tremendous suffering because of the situation they find themselves in, suffering that you may have never experienced. And it is important that these people get the emotional support that they need.

It is just as important for the people that cause the pain to understand what their actions are doing, so hopefully they can learn to change, to be more compassionate and mindful of others.

The It Gets Better campaign has made a huge difference. It has helped to bring this issue to the forefront and I have heard people say that they have changed. I have heard people also say that they will be more supportive and speak up. I have seen schools implement new policies. I also see the government working on bills to help cut down bullying. Parent in NY have stated that they are more concerned with bullying in schools than with the possibility of terrorism. Many people are taking this issue seriously, when previously, they did not.

I personally am tired of the HOMOSEXUAL playing the victim card al the time.

I personally think homosexuals should apologize to heterosexuals for perpetuating stereotypes and creating a culture around sex and alcohol.

If the roles were reversed and this were a homosexually dominated society and i were a straight man, I'd be fucking scared for my life.
