PFLAG is organizing a response to homobigot Sally Kern tomorrow, here is your chance to stand up united as a community and demand a stop to this. Wish I could be there, but I have my own battles here in Ny.

If I grabbed my picket sign and magic markers (and bedazzler) everytime someone in Oklahoma , especially the part I live in, said something stupid, I wouldn't have much time for anything else except non-stop protesting! My response to ignorant bigoted responses like that is to simply ignore them. What's more is I conduct myself in a responsible, tactful, and socially acceptable manner everyday so that I can defeat stereotypes and stigma that exist in my state. This is all I can do. What I won't do is waste a day bitching back and forth with a bigot. People like this individual that made this disgusting statement are numerous in Oklahoma. They were ignorant when they tried to antagonize people based on skin color or ethnicity and they are still ignorant now that they do it based on sexuality. I feel sorry for them, but I will not share the same oxygen as them as I bicker back and forth with them as I sink to their level. Someone's rights are denied, someone is assaulted based on sexuality, or an unfair ordinance or statute undermines my civil rights passes.....this is when I protest. I won't do it in reaction to namecalling or a statement that is completely untrue. The handful of gays who are going down their tomorrow to feed the cycle of hate and ignorance should go out into the world and go about the business of disproving it. However, to those going, GIVE THE BITCH HELL!!

I sincerely doubt PFLAG is going to feed the cycle of hate, they will be very peaceful and courteous about it. That being said, I respect your choice not to protest but it is not a waste of time. See, the protest is not really about changing Sally Kern's mind although that would be nice. It is about bringing media attention to homophobia and changing the publics mind.

Yeah, Hippie, I totally get the other side, but my stance is, sometimes being a good person (the complete opposite of any untrue stereotype) is the best form of protest. Seeing us behaving like ourselves is the best way to reach the public, by being OUT in the public and being totally fantastic in every way.

But, I do agree with you about the media exposure. I hadn't thought about it that way. It's always good for any community to shake it up in the public eye, create shockwaves...

...In regards to a petty remark, i'm barely sold on that, but then again, she is a public figure; thus our rebuttle should be public.

I also absolutely agree with you, being out and just like everyone else will help temper this image that gays are sinful, psychotic whatevers. Our lives are just as boring as everyone else's, and we have just as many problems.

icon_razz.gif well, you, Caslon, and HndsmKansan, prove gay men are very smart and care about a variety of social issues and what's more, are willing to get involved, and none of the three of you need to be muscleheaded behemoths to be sexy. Your intelligence makes you sexy. A man with a brain, please, let that become a new gay stereotype.

Well 1. Either I am being boycotted, or 2. There aren't many Ok gay RJ's. 3. The Oklahoma gay Real Jock community aint particularly concerned with activism.

There are several Guilty Gear... but they may not be as intuned with events as you. She sounds like a disgrace to Oklahoma, however.....
