Hey ddboy! I've lived in Cleveland for the past 4 years (though now I'm leaving next month). As far as the gay scene goes, there aren't too many options. The biggest one is Bounce - kind of twinky club/bar that has drag and strip shows every Friday and Saturday. Since you're under 21, it's really your only option, and they'll charge you a $10 cover usually.

Besides the gays, Cleveland is really not a bad city. There's lots of amazing restaurants (W 25th and Ohio City is my favorite area), museums (Rock Hall is downtown, Museum of Art and Botanical Gardens are on the east side in University Circle), as well as some great performing arts (Playhouse square has lots of options, and Cleveland Orchestra is one of the best in the country). Also, Clevelanders live for their sports teams (even if they don't win very often), so be prepared to hear everyone talking about Traitor James.

The weather is probably the worst thing about Cleveland, and it's really not that bad once you get used to it. Let me know if you have any more Qs about the area! What brings you to the Cleve for a year anyway?

Thanks Karnage, its great to hear all of that!

its actually a one year internship program that I got for my university that brings me to Cleveland. I should be moving in the next two weeks or three.

I am exactly (and not under) 21 years, so I guess I should be good to go out.

I also need some help on where to rent a room or a flat. I've heard a lot about some bad areas to live in.

    Welcome to Ohio.

I can't vouch much for Cleveland seeing that I live in Columbus, but Cleveland is an interesting city that does offer a WIDE variety of things to do and see. What part of Cleveland will you be moving to? Feel free to message me if you'd like.

Bring tall boots, boi. Snows like a bitch from November straight thru March. I grew up there (Akron). One year we had snow on May 11. It's called Lake Effect. Lake Erie stays warmer than the land mass at its southern shore (i.e., Cleveland). Cold Canadian winds blow south across Lake Erie, pick up moisture, and then dump the moisture as snow when it hits the land mass on the south shore. The snow hangs around in drifts that turn a greyish black from the traffic and other pollution. Don't wish for it to melt because then you get--wait for it--icy slush! And don't even think about driving in it unless you know what you're doing--folks from warmer places are clueless about driving on snow and ice. You practically have to grow up there to get the hang of it. What with the weather issue, people tend to dress practical (read drab) rather than stylish. I still have fam there, but I don't visit during snow months unless it's a funeral--every time a relative dies, we have to hack through the permafrost just to set 'em in the ground. icon_neutral.gif

Private message me... I just moved from Cleveland about three months ago, and I have some gay friends out there who would take you under their wing if I asked.

Since you're going to be there for a year, DEFINITELY check out Cedar Point over the summer. Well, that is if you like roller coasters. They have the most of any park and some of the best in the world. It was one of the highlights of growing up in NE Ohio.
