This is new, I think. What's the point of it? Why post if you don't want anyone to see it? And why hide it when anyone can just click Quote and see it...and who posted it?

    What am I missing here?

It appears that if you hide your profile, you also hide your post. So, don't hide your profile if you want your post to show up.

I thought it was only "hidden" if the person deleted their account?

If they are deleted it seems their posts will still appear, but if they have hidden their profile, their posts appear as "This post has been hidden."

I think it's great. It cleans up the threads and hides posts from deleted troll accounts. Pages load faster.

But it appears guys can hide their accounts and still post.

    This site is weird sometimes.

The hidden posts can be seen if you click the QUOTE button. I think it's a pretty good compromise between disallowing hidden accounts to post and having the forums clogged with trollish douchebaggery.
