I've been leaning towards VI: The Undiscovered Country.

I'd have to go with the newest one Star Trek (2009). However I thought that the Wrath of Khan is pretty good back from the early 80s.

If you're referring to the original crew: The Undiscovered Country - by far the best in suspense and acting.

With Picard and the crew: First Contact.

Now I'm waiting for Janeway and the crew to get their chance!

It will be a cold day in hell before that happens. Not unless it is a made for TV movie with cheap digital sets and on the SciFi channel.[/quote]

RowBuddy saiddepends on my mood. if I have to pick ONE out of ALL of them ST:II for sure.

But if I am choosing between 1-6 and 7-10 or 11 (all of which I consider different "Series" of Star Trek Movies)... I would pick ST:II from the first batch, First Contact from the second. The latest one has not grown on me yet. It was good, but lacked the heart of the earlier ones.

Well, I agree about ST II: The Wrath of Kahn from the original cast and First Contact from the Next Generation cast. But, I think Star Trek (2009) was a fun ride. Though I really respect J.J. Abrams, I was really skeptical that a reboot would work. But his movie was very entertaining and had high production values. I didn't like everything about it, but thought it succeeded at what it needed to do. The story worked and more importantly the actors had good chemistry. And I was really surprised that it worked given some actors mimicked the original actor's take and others went different directions. We'll see where they go from here, but I'd say my fears were laid to rest.

My favorite is Star Trek IV: The Voyage Home. It's the funniest of all of them, and it's got a lot of cute moments. I especially love Dr. McCoy visiting the hospital to save Chekov.

Sure, the whale thing is a little bit silly, but it makes the nice point that human beings aren't the only intelligent life on the planet. And we would do better to pay more attention to the rest of the planet's inhabitants.

Definitely First Contact. The new Star Trek is exciting and all, but I grew up with the cold, calm, somewhat peculiar TNG and Voyager series, and I like them that way.

From the original cast, Star Trek II.
    From TNG, First Contact.

I've been reading that the new movies won't follow a story arc, and should be independent plots. Happy with the first version, though.

The most recent Star Trek was incredibly good! I was really surprised and impressed. And the way they reinvented the series without violating anything that happened was brilliant. Looking forward to the sequel! Definitely the best I can remember, but I do quite fondly remember the 'go back in time and grab the whales' movie, I forget which that is. "Helooooo, computer..."

(I resaw Wrath of Khan with some friends a few years ago and was really, really underwhelmed, much better in my memory haha =)
