Rules of the Road

What rule(s) do other drivers break that just infuriates the hell out of you? What rule(s) do you break?

I am damnhellass sick and tired of people driving 5-10mph under the speed limit--while in the freeway's fast lane! On the freeway, the left lanes are supposed to be reserved for faster traffic, slower traffic is to keep right. When you drive slowly in the left-most lane, you not only disrupt the flow of traffic but you prevent other drivers from safely passing you (remember back to the DMV driver handbook, to pass someone safely you pass them on the left.) If the cars in the lane to the right of you are going faster then you are then you should be to the right of them. If you're in the left-most lane and you're not passing anyone, get out of that lane!

If you guessed that the rule I break is driving faster then the speed limit, then you win!

Don't come here, then. These people think EVERY lane is the slowpoke lane.
Hence the reason I got 13 tickets so far (9 won by attorneys, though).

I hate drivers who try to run me over while crossing the street, especially cab drivers. Just yesterday I was crossing the street on a green light and a taxi suddenly turned, without signaling, and nearly hit me. I chased him down and cursed him out. He had the nerve to try and tell me it was my fault, even though I was crossing in the crosswalk with a green "walk" light! I wish I had gotten his license plate number.

I hate it when people don't turn on their turn signal, so you think they are going straight, but instead they try to run you (the pedestrian) over, even though you are crossing a designated crosswalk and there was a stop sign for him to stop at, but they always roll right through it.

I often wonder why these elderly left lane slow pokes get those gas guzzling large Buicks or Volvos with big V8 engines when they are only going to drive 50 anyway.

Ahhhh, where do I begin. I do home health for a living so I have the pleasure of driving around in LA traffic each and every day, all day long. Not that I am a perfect driver, but here is a short list of things that make me want to drive people off the road:

-People who wait to merge until the last second, or even better those who create an imaginary lane on the right side of the road just so they can get one or two cars farther and then have to cut you off and further congest traffic

-People who think their hazards lights are magical devices that can turn any place on the road into a parking space. Seriously, 'Ive seen a car parked in an active lane of traffic for 15-20 minutes but it must be okay because they have their hazards on.

-People who think it is okay to do a U-turn at a 4-way stop, usually performed as a 3-point turn, with other cars there waiting.

    - Semi trucks who will block 2 or 3 lanes of traffic at an intersection or coming out of a business while they wait for an opening in traffic so they can turn left on a busy street.

I really could go on all day, but those are some of my top ones. icon_evil.gif

Waiting to merge late makes traffic move faster.

Dunno if that work in LA where I hear your all just sit unmoving from 3PM - 5PM.

I've asked many of them that question. Unanimously, they answered "because the big vehicles are safer if you get hit."
My response is "well if you'd drive the fucking speed limit, that wouldn't be a problem."

In construction zones where lanes are closed here in the Detroit area there are now sometime signs that instruct traffic to keep using all lanes until forced to merge in an attempt to keep traffic moving and then to do what they call a zipper merge- one car from lane and then one from the other and keep alternating. They say it works it better than everyone merging too early.

That method is tried and true. Too bad all it takes is one scared driver to hit the brakes and a traffic jam is formed.

Works like a zipper. Two lanes of traffic merge alternating one lane to the other. That's the theory at least. It's been shown to be effective in steady traffic. I'm sure it has little effect on traffic already slowed to a crawl.

I merge late. The people I hate in this case are the ones who just glue themselves to the bumper of the car in front because they don't want to let me merge. Fine I'll hold up traffic f*cker.

I really hate drivers who speed up to prevent you from moving over as soon as you turn on your turn signal to change lanes.

How about the drivers who get in the car pool lane and then drive under the speed limit?

    Where do I begin

Slow pokes driving in the passing lane, usually they are chatting on the phone.

People not using their turn indicators

Waiting for the last second to get in the left turning lane.

Emergency hazard lights are for emergencies not so you can run into Rite-Aid and not have to worry about parking

    Blonds...enough said LOL

I don't like drivers who don't use their signals. I also got a ticket for being in the left hand/ fast lane and behind a slow driver. Well I switched to the right hand lane and had to accelerate to keep up with that traffic and get over just one more lane and the cop pulled me over for speeding.

    ...fucking redneck hick.

using your headlights in the rain with your wipers
not using turn signals are the 2 that get under my skin.

I text while driving. That is my big thing.
I also on occassion have run lights. I'm sitting there, a light somewhere changes and I go.

Oh man! These are pretty bad too. I haven't had to deal with them for a bit now though and I've seen the CHP crack down a little on them.

Rules I break that I shouldn't: driving too fast, going through yellow lights

Rules others break that piss me off: driving too fast, going through yellow lights, their high beams on when coming towards me, talking on the phone, texting, leaving their blinkers on, not using their blinkers, going way under the speed limit

    Hows this one?

STOPPING at a 'yield' sign (especially when there's no one around)

Oh and a VERY common one here in Florida...

Coming to a complete stop in the middle of a boulevard to check your map (canadian snowbirds are wicked for this one)

Can you call the cops on a cop? Driving down the traffic riddled 405 the other day, I saw a CHP driving solo in the car pool lane, texting away on his blackberry! I tried flashing him a dirty look but he never looked away from his phone!

I think you can. Not that they are likely to do anything about it.

I always see cops come to a red light, sit for a while, and once they get annoyed, they turn on their sirens so they can blow through it. Then again, I might do the same if I were a cop...

    Yes, you can.
I was followed by a cop for over 15 minutes once. Every turn I made, he also made, but would never turn on his lights. I finally called 911 to report it, just in case he was a fake cop trying to get me alone somewhere (this was 2am in a small town).

The dispacher finally figured out which cop it was, called him, and told him to either turn on his lights and pull me over, or leave me alone. He finally turned on his lights, pulled me over, and came up to my window. I was still on the phone with the 911 operator, giving her the play-by-play. She told me to drive away without saying anything, so I did. Never had another problem in that town. icon_wink.gif
