    So hey guys!

I'm new to the forums, and didn't see a good place to introduce myself so I thought I would do it here. I've been poking around for a few days on these forums and been really impressed with everyone's attitudes, and for a "jock" forum I was really expecting something different. Well shame on me.

So, I've recently started coming out of the closet, which has proven to have more ups and downs than I expected, but as I'm feeling better about myself and my circumstances in life I have started working really hard to loose weight and get fit. So far I've lost about 18 pounds through cardio and good nutrition, it's slow but it's steady. I want to adjustt my diet to gaining muscle when I hit 175, I recently went out and bought "starting strength" the book, and an olympic barbell with 300 pounds of weight. I'm really excited about this, to look as good as I feel.

So I guess this thread needs to go somewhere to promote discussion or else it's just me talking about myself - One thing I'm struggling with right now is finding gay friends. I have none. I live in Greensboro NC which is said to be the gay San Francisco of the east coast, and still I can't find gay people. So any suggestions? I've got some friends who are willing to go to some local gay clubs/bars with me, but I've never tried making random friends at bars, and I'm certainly not cruising for sex so I'm not sure how to do this.

Well anyway, look forward to being a productive member on these forums.

welcome to the original Loony Tunes. Everyone here is fucking certifiable, some have already been there and back, but most are sweethearts. Take nothing personal, use the descriptor 'fuck' alot and you'll be fine. Congrats on the coming out progress........................Keithicon_cool.gif

GrindR, manhunt, and craigslist are some of the tools you can use to meet & make new gay friends. I <3 grindr

thanks for the suggestion, though craigslist kinda freaks me out. I did make a plenty of fish account, and while I'm chatting with people, it never ends in a date or hangout.

I think I should of added a qualifier somewhere - Greensboro NC is the gay San Francisco of the east coast... IF they would come out of the closet.

Welcome. Just a comment on the Starting Strength 2nd ed book. It is a good book, teaching proper form for the basic barbell exercises. I recommend that as a good second in sequence book, after The New Power Program, Protocols for Maximum Strength, by Dr. Michael Colgan. Colgan is an excellent book to start with because 1) emphasizes full range of motion workouts which will give you an excellent foundation, 2) addresses in addition to the muscles the joints, ligaments, and tendons. Minimizes likelihood of injury especially when starting a program. 3) provides an excellent stretching program, pointing out many common stretches that are not good for you. Only thing - does require cable machines so it would be a gym based routine. More discussion on this is better in the Strength Training folder, but thought I'd respond here because you mentioned the book.

Again, welcome. Many good guys and much info available.

    Nekkid eh?

I'll get right on that, possibly after I finish losing the 15-20 pounds, or after I'm shit faced. Whichever comes first.

Before you lose weight or get shitfaced. It's more fun when you're sober, and body image issues suck. icon_wink.gif

Welcome... but I think you got your cities wrong... insert New York City instead of Greensboro, NC and you'll have found the place you've been looking for...
