I dont if any of you have seen Black Swan yet, but you really need to. It looked quite interesting but i did not know how freakin intense and mind-trippin it was. Completely worth it, im probably gonna see it a couple more times as well.

Natalie Portmans performance was above outstanding along with Mila Kunis. Haha, i cannot even begin explaining how phenomenal it was, probably one of the best ive seen in a long time.

    Any other thoughts??

Did anyone catch Natalie Portman and Darron Aronofsky on the Charlie Rose show? Great interview and insights on making the film. Aronofsky had wonderful things to say about Wynona Ryder also.
    Can't wait to see it.

Read a book and forget about giving Hollywood your hard-earned cash.

    Sorry, I couldn't resist.

Looks like one worth seeing. Since it is showing at a theater in walking distance, maybe I can talk my bf into seeing this weekend.

I thought the movie was brilliant! Amazing intense emotional acting by Natalie Portman and Mila Kunis as well as Barbara Hershey!

As a dancer, technically the editing was close to perfect, you could barely tell both Portman and Kunis weren't dancers and while they studied ballet in prep for the filming they did have dance doubles when needed. I mean dance is about the beauty of the body and legs.... this movie kept the integrity of the dance form by mostly shooting the actors waist up- otherwise it would have looked bad probably. Another dancer detail- Portman wears a strapless tutu- that would never happen- there's too much movement in the torso of a ballerina to not have straps holding your costume up.

I did think a lot of the themes were cliche and a little campy. These things may have happened/may still happen in the dance world but... blah blah blah. i.e.- sleeping with the director, eating disorders, the pushy stage mother... I thought they were tame on the topic of injuries- but great images with the split toe nails..

This movie had really great visceral imagery for me- so many times you cringe inside (much like Requiem for a Dream).

It's based on the ballet Swan Lake- but an interpretation that strays a little from the real plot- which doesn't bother me at all. The score of the movie was great- based on the original Tchaikovsky but developed on.

All in all- great movie. I predict many Academy Awards.

It's pretty great, and yet another Aronofsky film centering around the protagonist's descent into madness.

I don't really have any critiques; it was at times filled with dark humor, but mostly it was just claustrophobic and foreboding (in all the right ways). Plus, I love movies with unreliable narrators. You don't know how much actually happens, but, in this case, you are completely aware of all the psychoses that plague Portman.

Speaking of Portman, Hershey and Cassel specifically--excellent performances.

Also, no matter how ridiculously over-the-top Portman's plight, it was made completely believable by Aronofsky and all of the actors. Real or imagined, the ending provides Portman with the only one possible for her character--a perfectionist with a subconscious awareness that she's reached the fleeting pinnacle of her career.
