i've missed 3 days of work because of a filthy, rotten head/chest cold.

wonders of wonders, i have NO appetite. NO desire for food.

all i've wanted to snack on is warm bread & butter and hot tea.

Don't take medicines! They aren't good for your body. If you are craving bread and butter, go ahead and have that. It's better to eat that than nothing at all. Of course, if you can, eat fruits and vegetables too.

I've been sick all week and my biggest craving has been hot and sour soup, mixed with white rice. I think I'll have more tonight!

    Get well soon, Dave.

I had a miserable cold last week and the remnants of congestion still linger. Last week there were some periods when I felt a fever sensation but without the temperature. Each of the times it happened I ate carbs and the fever-feeling disappeared virtually instantly! It seems that my body did crave carbohydrates when sick. In the past I would drink even more water but with no immediate result.
I missed a week and a half at the gym and lost a couple pounds. When I returned this week I did less cardio but everything else was doable as usual.

Dude ...I think it may be the fact that foods like bread..crackers are bland and your body is knowledgeable to that fact but I wouldn't say it was a craving...Hope you feel better...BUD

Yes, the body, in this case specifically the immune system, likes carbohydrate. I wouldn't recommend it be simple carbohydrate and butter though because butter has a significant amount of saturated fat. Try olive oil and garlic instead?

Yes, it's better to eat something than nothing at all so you don't add more physical stress (lack of carbohydrate) to your body.

I feel hungry all the time when am sick. Esp crave for sweet things, and there is no way I can resist them. But I guess that is because am not feeling like eating anything else and sugar is a bit more enticing.

Every larder needs a few cans of chicken noodle soup and some tea bags for such times. Jello is handy, too.

Keep warm and hydrated and get well.

When I'm sick my body craves soup and noodles (a carb).... My body mainly craves carbs when I'm hung over.
