The A-List: New York is an American reality television series from the LGBT-interest network Logo. The series, frequently described as a Real Housewives-style show, follows the lives of six gay and bisexual men in New York City over the summer of 2010.[1] The series was originally announced under the title Kept[2] but was changed in pre-production. The series debuted on October 4, 2010, to mixed critical reviews.

It is produced by Chelsea, Manhattan-based True Entertainment, which also produces Real Housewives of Atlanta. True Entertainment is a subsidiary of Endemol.[3] Advertising for the series calls it "Housewives ... With Balls!"[4]

Oh you're talking about Reichen. The guy that was dating the brazilian model. Austin is the rude one that likes to get naked all the time and was a former model.

Like most reality shows, it's annoying as hell. only in this case, you've got a bunch of whiny queens playing up every gay stereotype imaginable.

This show basically follows the reality TV formula. Nearly all of these shows have that one character that nobody stand and is put in there for drama. The twist in this show is that they had nearly an entire cast of unlikeable characters. Derek, TJ, Austin, Reichen, and by the end even Rodiney were just too much to take. Mike Ruiz and Ryan were nice, but really they got the least airtime of anyone in the show.

You're kidding, right? "Love this show?"

I hated every episode that I watched week after week.:-)

One issue that I had with the show is that none of the "characters" were actually from New York, some were even shipped in for the show.

Secondly, they would go to tired bars and restaurants and claim that that's the hot gay place where A-Listers go. Not so much. They never even shot in Hell's Kitchen which these days is far more gay and trendy. I think the producers were straight and just picked up a copy of the Gay Guide New York and worked from there.

Thirdly, the whole show was all about Austin and who hates him or lusts him this week or that. He was so incredibly boring, the dime a dozen in Chelsea type you would look at, think, 'he's cute,' then go back to what you were doing. And why did they blur his ass all the time? We can show asses now on network, and this was a cable show? With all their talk about how incredible his ass was, to never see it was maybe the only thing interesting about him?!

Lastly, just because you wear foundation and buy expensive clothes, doesn't make you A List. Reichen's 15 minutes was up ages ago. Mike Ruiz, although a complete a**hole in person, because of all his celebrity friends, and a New Yorker, more or less, was possibly the only one to qualify for the show. Now if they had six more like him, then it would be worth watching and not feel like I had to start dating women and move to Nebraska.

    I tried .... I actually did

    but it was almost painful
... I thought after the first few minutes WHERE do they find these people ???

and I know drama can be fun esp on reality TV
but the activity on this show was borderline offensively stereotypical
of what people perceive as negatively gay

I didn't think the show was that bad and frankly, I do not care where they were bussed in from. But I do think the reality of exactly who these characters were whould be revealed.

Nevertheless, they had several "queens" (Derek, TJ, Ryan), a couple of macho guys (Reichen, Mike Ruiz), a hustler (Rodney), and a cute trust-fund boy (Austin). I do think it was somewhat representative of a segment of gay life in NYC, not that it was representative of all of it or even the majority of people. But it was a cross-section to some extent. Still, many gay guys in NYC are not that wealthy nor did the show represent what true "A-list" is in NYC. This was Logo's "A-list", not NYC's A-list. Still a good show IMO. You can only spend so much time watching Olbermann, Rachel Maddow, and Lawrence O'donnell on MSNBC after-which it's time to give the mind a rest.

I really do think that most of what's on TV is garbage though I cherish the opportunity to watch anything that is truly "gay" and this was very "gay" IMO. I certainly think it came closer to many peoples' reality (in NYC and other expensive cities in America) than "Queer As Folk" ever did. I look forward to the next episode and with time I hope their "A-list" can evolve into one that is less about money and more about real working guys (and queeny ones too) who make a mark on society and/or nightlife.

Whether they were macho or feminine, nearly all of the guys were selfish and shallow. I refuse to believe that's a good representation of gays in New York or anywhere else.

The even more tragic part is that larger society thinks this is how ALL of us act - especially where I'm from (Oklahoma) ONLY stereotypes precede us, we need grounded men that are gay out there in the public eye making a difference if we ever want our segment of society to make any headway - marriage, adoption, rights in general, etc.

    This show completely disgusts me.

I love Rick and Steve, but AList is ok if you take it at face value. It is supposed to be trashy TV also most of those guys probably aren't as bad as we are led to believe through the the benefit of editing. I agree though Logo needs a non-stereotypical version of gay life. Show guys just having fun without the queeny behavior. Maybe show gays in the outdoors or that are into extreme sports.
