Gay Man Savagely Attacked, Craigslist Posting Alludes To Attack

8/7/2010 Police in Battle Creek, Michigan are saying that the stabbing of a man in that city could possibly be a hate crime. The hate crime classification comes after learning the man is gay and discovering a ranting post on Craigslist which seems to target the victim. The victim had his car stolen by the assailant and spent a week and a half in the hospital following the attack.

    The Battle Creek Enquirer reports:

A witness told police he was nearby, heard screaming and, when he investigated, saw one man attacking another. When the witness told the attacker to stop, the man replied it was a domestic dispute and to leave. The suspect then fled, taking the victim's car.

Detective Sgt. Austin Simons, supervisor of the detective bureau, said Thursday that police are investigating an online posting which appeared the day after the attack on Craigslist, a classified advertisement website.

In the anonymous message, which has since been removed, the writer, using derogatory references to gays, alluded to the attack under the headline "I warned you, you dumb queer." The message continued about the meeting at the park and "I e-mailed and said I have something ... but you did not think it was a knife did you. Now you are in the hospital and your car is in the river. I warned you."

If the author of the Craigslist post was indeed the assailant, this sounds like it could have been yet another terrible Internet meeting. Police are still searching for the victim's car, a copper-colored Toyota Matrix. The assailant (apparently a stocky white man with bald or shaved head and wearing a black shirt) is still at large

CL is probably the last place one should set up hook-ups.

Hmm let me think. NEVER. I have never thought of posting on craigslist or replying. In fact I've been on there all of 3 times as of this morning.

This happened in early August. Are there no updates, no arrest yet? How's the stabbed guy doing? Did they ever find his car, which I guess was in a river, if the Craigslist post is indeed connected to this crime?

BTW, I'm not sure posts here need to be all in red caps. icon_rolleyes.gif

In all honesty anyone could be attacked, robbed, beaten , drugged or killed as a result of hooking or just meeting someone online. If I want to meet someone I chat with online i have them call me or I get there nber and call them. Having thief phone number on your phone is one great form of evidence should something happen. But a phone conversation can also help you determine if you really want to meet somebody. Guys need to be more careful and not blinded by there sex drive. Agreeing to meet in a well trafficked public place can be helpful but you still need to have some intuition about strangers.

    CL is for bottom feeders.

I've checked and tried it it out in the past but the caliber of individuals on there leaves much to be desired.

Texas ahead of practically any other state in social acceptance? Ha. The U.S. has along way to go, but Texas even farther. I live in Michigan and about 1/3 of the state's population is covered by some kind of gay rights ordinance. Like most of the rest of the U.S., still behind the developed world, but still ahead of Texas. There has been talk of putting gay marriage to the voters again sometime in the future since in Michigan the ban passed by just over half in 2004, not like Texas where it was 70%.

I've used CL, but not for hookups. That part of CL is just too skeevy for the most part, stuff like:

"Park and Ride: cum to my motel room at %some location during some window of time% the doors open and my ass is up and waiting..."

Yaaaaaah, no thanks, sounds like a horrific way to catch a bug.

That said, I do look at the ads to see what sort of crazy stuff people are after these days. icon_razz.gif

I have. I've made about 5 posts in my lifetime in the M4M section. All of them were hilarious and I received more "I loled at your craigslist post" than anything. But I think I met TWO people from it, one was not my type in person, and the other one went psycho on me in two days, but didn't kill me. Just typical fag psycho...not murder psycho.

Only posted on CL once and that was for selling my hybrid bike, never went on it since and will stay that way. They should just take down that site all together. Scams and violence...
