For all the talk that Obama & Co. has generated, a question:
Were The Muppets postracial? This rendition of the irish anthem "Danny Boy" by The Swedish Chef, Animal, and Beeker transcends race, creed, gender, etc

Yeah he did. If he was alive today I think he'd have a field day with the topics of today.

From the grave Jim Henson is yelling "Eat it Pynchon! Suck it John Cage!" and I add my posthumous praise.

manamana is the mantra i started at the office - whenever something is stupid, bothersome, ridiculous, frustrating or in general unpleasant... we chant manamana under our breaths to bring us back to a happy place

I couldn't agree more, but I would add, the Muppets were pre-whatever you want. They broke boundaries and reached more people in the world than any person/tv show today. Jim Henson had a wonderful vision, a vision we all could learn from.

Jim's my personal hero and he left this world a better place for having been here. Ray Charles said this of the song "Bein' Green":

"The words say, 'It's not easy being green,' but the song is about knowing who you are.

And in it you hear Jim's message most clearly.

He believed that people are good and that they want to do their best and that no matter how or why we might be different from anybody else, we should learn to love who we are and be proud of it."

Jim may be dead but we can still learn from him. So sit down, turn on an episode of The Muppet Show, and laugh.

As a side note, if anyone would like to further discuss the Muppets, message me, they are my life, lol.

Actually, they were puppets. Almost certainly they were controlled by unseen forces aligned in a vast conspiracy stretching from corporate America to left wing political think tanks. I have heard that the Rand Corporation worked with Jim Hensen to integrate the fruits of CIA research into sleeper agents and that the same hidden substructure within the government had Hensen liquidated when he threatened to blow the lid on the whole operation.

If your asking yourself "is Barack Obama the Manchurian Candidate?" I think you have your answer just as sure as Angela Landsbury had wobbly jaws.

I for one won't go quietly into the night Ernified into eternal cogdom like some Spacely Sprocket - just another brick in the wall.

F--k the damned Muppets I say, they are evil mind-controlling pseudo bourgeoise puppets of a hidden state that answers to hippies, internationalists, the Masons, and very likely ZOG itself.

What, no Bilderbergers, whatever they are? No Illuminati? Nothing about the Federal Reserve? WERE YOU ON THE GRASSY KNOLL?

As a matter of fact, I was in a secret bunker 100 meter below the grassy knoll. You wouldn't believe it but I was there with Elvis, Little Richard, and Sal Mineo whom I met at the first Bilderberger meeting in Arnhem in 1954 (yes I know you think that I wasn't even born then - and that today is my 44th birthday (blatant request for best wishes) - but that is what they want you to think. The only other thing I can permit myself to tell you about the Bilderbergers is that Chucky was a founding member.

On a still more personal level I was tossed out of the Illuminati because I opposed their plan to change their name to the Compact Fluorescent Illuminati. They sent agents to kill me but I was able to handle them without great distress, now they are sending insect drones and this is proving more challenging.

On reading this thread today I took steps to bring the matter to the attention of SPECTRE in Paris where I expect some immediate action to be taken on the emerging Muppet crisis.

By the time this is over Miss Piggy will be stuffing the down vest of a 10 year old "freedom fighter" in Addis Abbaba.

Think for yourself and stay free.

::sigh:: I liked the Muppets and things, but it was Dark Crystal and Labrynth that i adored!!!!!

"As The World Falls Down" by Bowie from the latter is still one of my top 10 favorite songs of all time.

I find the original Star Trek also to be post-racial (or at least in the midst of it), by casting a Japanese man and an African-American woman as highly ranked and intelligent characters. They were just as cute and amicable (and sexy) as Cap'n Kirk and Spock. It delivered the first interracial kiss on American television.

I wonder if JJ Abrams' upcoming re-imagination will encounter current issues (ie acceptance of homosexuals), but that's probably wishful thinking.

Since Star Trek and the Muppets, there have been far too few Vulcans, pigs and frogs cast in substantial roles. Post-racial indeed.

Don't forget that the original, never-aired pilot episode had a female captain.

I thought Pigs in Space was one of those Zak Spears fisting videos where detente was achieved using an astronaut, a cosmonaut, and a whole lot of Crisco. On reentry the capsule ends up smelling like the Betty Crocker R&D lab.

Please lets not forget that Spock and Kirk are histories first gay TV couple. Bones was always there with some Sarian Brandy when James Tiberius Kirk got all high and mighty and Spock showed a great propensity to fiddle and otherwise nance about with or without a brain, under the influence of hot Vulcan blood, or free-loving it with roving space hippies.

I always thought Bones was jealous and Scotty was an imbecile (just exactly how much warp power did he think you needed to fly two paper plates and some soda straws across a spray painted backdrop - obviously the unidentified power drain was the DILDOS - duh!).

Poor yeoman Janice, she never had a chance against Spock's sexy voice, pointy ears, and delicate hands. Didn't she know he was riding Kirk like a pony in the Veteran's day parade? I guess that hairdo choked off the oxygen to her brain.

Of course, my preference was always for Klingon love. Star Trek never really got interesting until Lieutenant Worf showed up. "I like my species".

    Ciao
