This came from the Council of Conservative Citizens

Marvel Studios declares war on Norse mythology.

Norse mythology gets a multi-cultural remake in the upcoming movie titled “Thor,” by Marvel studios. It’s not enough that Marvel attacks conservative values and promotes the left-wing, now mythological Gods must be re-invented with black skin.

It seems that Marvel Studios believes that white people should have nothing that is unique to themselves. An upcoming movie, based on the comic book Thor, will give Norse mythology an insulting multi-cultural make-over. One of the Gods will be played by Hip Hop DJ Idris Elba.

    Photos at left:

    1) Classic depiction of Heimdall

    2) Marvel’s depiction of Heimdall in 1960′s comic books.

    3) Marvel’s new Heimdall for upcoming 2011 movie.

I can't wait to see Thor. The guy that is playing him is so hot.

    Really? What a douchebag.

I wonder if they're going to boycott the next film that has a straight actor playing a gay one or vice versa. icon_rolleyes.gif

or why wasn't there a boycott for "The Passion of the Christ"? James Caviezel is of Slovak, Swiss, and Irish decent. I am sure that they could have found a Jewish actor to play the part.

They're just choosing the actor they thought was for the part. Progressive, yes, by no means insulting, and most of all, nothing to get all butthurt over. Holy fuck, those conservatives are so whiny...

I think this is hilarious because I was just thinking if there would ever be a time where different races (in relation to ethnicity) would ever get cast as a character whose original race differed? Would the actor get cast solely because he could act the shit out of that part better than anyone else. It seems as if that time has come, however some people can't accept the zeitgeist.

Yet they don't seem to have an issue with the fact that they are playing mythology as a legitimate race or religion. Interesting. They just need attention. If they are boycotting? Just means the lines will be shorter.

    peace,

I for one find the treatment of Norse Mythology in the comics a bit...iffy as the stories were believed by countless thousands. ITs the same with messing around with the Greek religious stories as tho that is all they are, stories and not "real" religious stories like the Bible. The film Troy was truly awful. Complete and utter rubbish, insulting not only to classics scholars but the people who believed those stories. Imagine the shit-storm if someone did a comic book about Jesus and really fucked up the story? Same differance. But its ok to diss "pagans" and "dead" religions.

HOWEVER, the comic book is not meant to be the Norse Religion. T hat is made very very clear. Names are similar but its not meant to be a re-telling of a Religious story. Its a comic book. Get over it.

It is a little bit amusing tho when you consider this line from wikipedia:

"Heimdall (Old Norse Heimdallr, modern Icelandic Heimdallur) is one of the æsir (gods) in Norse mythology, in the Edda called the "white god" (hvíta ás)."

Norse mythology gets so fucked up anyway. Like making Loke a son of Odin instead his blood brother like it was. And Frej is made much less important than he was while his sister Freja gets much more attention today. Maybe because Frej was always depicted with a giant erect cock.
But the written record from the Viking society is quite terrible.

I think that this little group of rag-tag whitepower promoting bigots would like to thank you for helping spread their message... with any luck they will be the new "westboro baptists" of white pride.

Their boycott page says "This website was launched last Tuesday evening. In less than 48 hours a firestorm of articles starting appearing on comic book, movie, and celebrity gossip websites. This has continued with fresh waves of articles popping up every single day for five days in a row now." and so far has 490 facebook "likes" including Todd McCoy. Among his 8 friends is the ku-klux Klan and uses the profile picture:

After reading the council of conservative citizens statement of principals I can not imagine that they are anything more than another front for a racist group who uses nice words and "statements of principal" to cast the thinnest of veils over their policies of outright hatred.

Interesting that the whiners had little to say about this excellent casting (fast forward past the song) :

Marvel's take on the 'Thor mythology' was never exactly correct. It wasn't until a few years ago that the character stopped speaking in thee's and thou's. If I recall correctly the Heimdall character was a recast. We don't even know how often he will appear in the movie. I am sure that Bifrost the Rainbow Bridge will do just fine being guarded by a black man.

Are you upset that Volstagg won't be portrayed like this? If not then why?

Exactly. Maybe I should have boycotted X-men because Hugh Jackman is 6'2" when Wolverine is supposed to be like 5'4". (Of course, Jackman is totally hot so I would watch him read the phone book.)

Who gives a hoot, if it's not an accurate portrayal of norse mythology. At least our days of the week remain pagan, 4 named for norse Gods and 3 for Roman Gods or festivals.

Now, had they cast black actors for The Ring of the Nibelungs, I would have screamed in horror.

What a strange and somewhat fascinating (in a sick way) site. I particularly liked this sentence on another page there: "Marvel Editor-In-Chief Joe Quested said he analogizes for depicting a TEA party activist with a sexually explicit sign, but says he stands by the rest of the comic."

That can be found at http://cofcc.org/2010/02/left-wing-marvel-comics-head-defends-anti-tea-party-issue-of-captain-america/

Why? Alberich was referred to as "black":

    Siegfried:
    WANDERER
    (ruhig)

    Schwarz-Alberich,
    schweifst du hier?
    Hütest du Fafners Haus?

The Metropolitan cast Eric Owens, a black bass-baritone, as Alberich in Das Rheingold.

They've also in the past cast Simon Estes as the Walküre Wotan, but the consensus seemed to be that the voice was not large enough for that role in a house as big as the Met.

yourname2000 saidIt's a weird that "Council of Conservative Citizens" is getting their bunches in a knot...'cos I bet if you asked them, they would be adamant that Jesus looked like this:
    kendra-burton-art-jesus-smiles-5x7-60.jp

And I have a hard time believing that any Jew born in Bethlehem 2000 years ago would be blond with blue eyes. (Never mind that he's described in the Bible as having hair "like wool" and it was considered shameful for any man to have long hair.)

Surely these freaks would be happy to trade a black Norse god for a pretty white Jesus, wouldn't they?? ...I mean, he's really, really pretty. Heck, I'd throw in an Hispanic Hercules for that Jesus. icon_wink.gif

I love how all these same whites were lining up telling Mongols to stop complaining that Temujin (otherwise known as Genghis Khan) was being portrayed by some white guy, when DNA analysis has solidly proven that he was 100% Northeast Asian.

And that happened several times in Hollywood history, not just once, and they're butchering real life not a comic book.

Here we go again with conservatives just throwing out words and hoping it sticks. I believe there is nothing "multi-cultural" about DJ Idris Elba's portrayal. There is only one culture that is being highlighted with this film, and it concerns itself with Norse mythology.

Granted, I have no idea why they selected him to portray Heimdall, considering there is not a close resemblance.
