What a significant milestone in equality for everyone. Great thanks to so many who have carried such tremendous burdens.

    Bad ass!

Choi has balls, in every sense of the word, and we need more LEADERS like him.

So many gay folks go on, and on, and on, about how they're victims; to the point it's sickening. Folks like Choi DO SOMETHING about it.

    Way to go DAN!!!!

Had Dan remained a cowardly closet case, change may not have come, but, change did come because he was NOT a coward.

There is no truth this statement. The repeal of DADT had nothing to do with Choi. DADT was well on its way to being repealed before this coward jumped ship.

If anything, the only change that came about b/c of Choi's selfish actions was the possible death of fellow soliders fighting abroad.

But it makes for a great photo opp, doesn't it?

You are absolutely wrong. Choi brought a human face to this struggle which made countless Americans recognize just how wrong DADT was. His acts of nonviolent protest made large statements, and he stood on the firing line emotionally and professionally. The attention he brought surely showed Americans, who in turn informed their legislators, that DADT was wrong and needed to be overturned.

I'm not even going to touch the fact that you're a faceless profile on a miniscule website calling a man who had national attention a coward.

jason_811, Thanks for posting. I hadn't seen this story yet elsewhere, and as I've been following Choi's story since the DADT repeal talks have been on the table, it's a satisfying conclusion.

Lt. Dan Choi will definitely go down in history as someone who stood up for his beliefs, and helped right a wrong for the LGBT community.

He is a hero and role model for many.

    Thanks for posting this jason_811.

Makes for a great photo op, but you wouldn't know anything about having a photo, would you? No photo, not verified, and little info, but always has a lot of crap to say. As chuckystud said, Choi has balls. Now where are yours?

Actually, while there is some basis for what you say, it's still ignorant. Choi's appearance on numerous broadcast outlets, including Larry King, was DIRECTLY responsible for a heightened public awareness of the issue. That heightened public awareness, and media pressure, helped to finally get DODT off the books. To say otherwise, is, as I said about your statement: ignorant.

Dan Choi was brave enough to stand up and count himself a gay man when it was dangerous to do so
so he is a hero in that respect and I love that he went on to make a statement
when he got his ring back

Story over? Not for Choi: "The next time I get a ring from a man," he tweeted later, "I expect it to be for full, equal, American marriage."
