Embracing your inner chimpanzee: Urban "ninjahood"

After checking out a couple of the "ninja" videos on YouTube, I am curious as to how many here on RJ embrace their inner "ninja" / chimpanzee ancestry and engage in these sport-like activities (as well as how many others would like to do them or otherwise find them amusing).

Quite frankly, this kind of fitness interests me more than weightlifting, but I am unsure of where one should start honing these kinds of skills. Climbing in one's backyard?

I'm including a couple of sample videos (yes, there is a potential overuse of the musical score from The Matrix).

    YouTube - Urban Ninja

YouTube - Russian Ninjas, Russian Climbing Ninja, Parkour in Latvia

Yes, there is a small segment of hastily cut and highly pixelated area shots; there is more cool stuff following that little detour icon_smile.gif

Addendum: I'd probably have to deal with my fear of heights either before or as part of this kind of exercise.

a good place to start would be here: http://warriortraining.co.uk/

I knwo alot of the guys on the site there are some, not many, free runners and breakdancers etc. But they will teach yuo the routines and skills at ground level before you go breaking your neck.

if i were you, i'd enroll in a gymnastics gym and take tumbling classes. this way you develop good form which reduces the risk of injury. i tumbled for 3 or 4 months and it is a great way to get in better shape.

Look up "free running gyms" and "parkour gyms" on the web. Also, for inspiration, look up "free running" and "parkour" on youtube.

I dig this kind of stuff. My friends and I do a weekly course that's similar to this (though not nearly as visually appealing). I like to think of it as "Ninja training camp."
