This year I spent a total of $300 on gifts which covers all of my immediate family members except for my sister since we agreed to not get each other anything because we usually return each others gift and my brother since I don't know where to buy crack. I spent $300 for gifts for 7 people one of which was a secret santa. Thank god for secret santa or else I would had spend even more money on extended family.

I spent less this year since I've grown more and more disgusted by consumerism. I didn't start shopping until Christmas eve. Being at the mall when you're press for time to buy and seeing all the buy this buy that propaganda made me sick. I was paying for my purchases at stores and got like 3 questions at every cash register "Would you like to purchase a 2 year extended warranty for this product?", "If you buy two of these you can get $10 off", and "have you seen our special on these items they make great stocking stuffers". No, just NO!

I wanted to boycott Christmas entirely this year but my family has a bunch of Catholics so I didn't want to spoil their holiday by being a bitch. However, I think my $300 was well spent. Now to only see if it will be appreciated.

$65, because I bought two extra heaters and gave them to my best friend for his family.
Florida is breaking all the records this year for cold temps...totally unprecedented winter. icon_sad.gif

I spent roughly $7500 on presents for my partner, maybe a little less than last year, and much less than the year before that. But that year included a new car, so not sure that counts. Presents for others may account for another $1000, I really haven't tallied it, and he bought some for family & friends, too.

We spend little on each other and a lot on everyone else, including strangers.

Neither of us mind the consumerism, as it is what runs our economy and provides jobs, even temporary ones, for those trying to make ends meet.

You must have spent hours standing in line.

Because my family comes from humble beginnings we have always given cards instead of gifts. Not store-bought cards, but handmade cards using scrap-booking items. We are always pleasantly surprised by the different themes and ideas that we receive from each other. Counting card stock and supplies and postage I spent around $40 icon_wink.gif

I went all out....for myself. Treated myself to a new motorcycle. My mom didnt want anything, so thats what she got, and not speaking to my sis, so I got her the same thing. I got my brother a gift card so he can just get whatever he wants for himself.

I usually spend quite a bit at Christmas time, both for family and others. This year I spent nothing on family because they said that they wanted to spend what little I had left on myself and that being with them this year on Christmas was the best present they could ever have. They spent a lot on me though including moving me back to Michigan and taking care of all my medical bills for me that insurance did not cover which was a lot. I did send quite a bit of clothes to the homeless shelter in Phoenix before I left and donated a few things to Goodwill and am grateful I was able to do so. Also a homeless family that I know is staying in my condo in Phoenix for the holidays until it closes in the middle of January and the new owner who is an investor is letting them stay there until they get it rented.

Hahahaha well if you were in Atlanta it probably wouldn't be a problem. I have been offered crack on the street without asking

I only had to buy 4 people gifts this year because I told all my friends I am too broke so we are not exchanging gifts. Probably spent $150-200. A little less than last year.

I don't do lines. A great deal of it was purchased online and delivered. I saw one $2500 item in a store window while we were walking on the sidewalk. I asked him if he liked it, and would want it. He replied yes, and I said it's yours, went inside and bought it without delay.

I cut way back this year. My business sales have been down for last couple of years so I cut down in order to be responsible. I really need to fix that...not the responsible part...but the sales part. ;) 17 of couples I give to are neighborhood friends, and I always give to a a couple children that go to a local non-profit organization that gives free tutoring to local 'at-risk chidlren', then there are the other friends and family. I did not add it up, but just thinking about it quickly...probably around $1k. I used to spend at least 2 or 3 times that...maybe more. I never really budgeted it out. I used to just buy what I wanted to get people.

We are trying to save up $1000 for the wedding, so I only spent about $150 for Danny, and $200 for my kids. Even so, I probably shouldn't have spent so much on us. I kinda set our saving back.

But Danny grew up with very little and I want him to feel as spoiled as I possibly can afford. i visited his hometown and saw a photo of the house he grew up in (raised by his 18 year old sister after his parents died) and it was all I could do not to cry for them. I'm very proud of him anf full of incredible admiration for his sister -- it was her whom I asked if I could marry him - i promised her I would take care of him as best I ever could.

It was a wonderful moment when he asked me if he could ask my Mum if he could call her "mom."

This year I spent $ 500.00 half it was for me though, LOL
