MellowJock said What position do you believe is the best?
There is no such thing as a particular baseball position being best.
Pitchers - This is the position that requires the most talent. Have to be able to throw for strikes consistently while varying speeds and the ability to put movement on the ball.
Short Stop. The guy who can catch a hard hit ball smoothly while moving well laterally in both directions, and then fire (strong arm) the ball accurately to first base or home plate, or toss it to 2nd or 3rd base. A lot of agility is required.
Second Base: A guy who can handle grounders well but lacks the lateral movement or strong arm of a Shortstop.
Third Base: The suicide position. This player must have very quick hands and a strong and accurate arm to fire the ball to first base.
First Base. This position requires the ability to catch the ball and step on first base. Often this field position is given to the guy who really is not a good fielder but has an awesome Bat when it comes to hitting the ball, and you want to keep him in the line up at the Clean-Up position (#4 hitter).
Catchers: Catchers are not made, they are born for the position. They have to have strong legs and arms, and have great wisdom and memory in knowing the opponent batters and his pitchers abilities when calling the type and locations of pitches to be thrown by the pitcher.
Left Field: Good position for a guy with good speed, a strong arm for throwing the ball, and has a good feel for where the fly balls are going after hit by the baseball bat.
Center Field. Same as left fielder plus great speed to cover a lot of ground in the vast center field
Right fielder, same as left field.
Designated Hitter. This position is for the guy who can really hit the ball, but is not much of a fielder.
MellowJock saidAs a former college baseball player I would have to say the catchers are the most attractive for me.
Well, this is a bit out of my league, but if he reciprocates to your overtures toward him, what can I say, go for it, but please, take it outside the ball park.
