I have noticed most forums or discussion boards date and time-stamp each entry. Does anyone worry if they are leaving an entry during working hours and someone finds out will they be reprimanded or fired from their jobs? Our photos are there too for good measure to prove who we are. icon_eek.gif

Now if the entries didn't have a time stamp but only a sequential number you would not be able to tell exactly what time the entry was made. Hmmmmm... something to think about.

Of course, if I ever respond to any forums from work it is always during my break time and that can vary from day to day depending on my work load. LOL

It doesn't really cost that much to get your own internet access from home, and it avoids a lot of potential grief. Work computers are for work.*

Anyway, if your employer wants to track your web usage, the IT guys can do that by looking at their server logs - no need to actually review any web sites.

There was once a big internet-porn-access scandal where I used to work. (The internet was pretty new then, but we were a "backbone" site.) As soon as the director (=CEO) found out, he announced that he had a list of names of people who accessed porn from company computers, and everyone on the list would be fired within a week.

However, once the list started filtering down the food chain for action, it was discovered that most of the names on the list were the actual people who did the work of the company (as opposed to the 80% that were in "management" or bureaucracy.) If they were all fired, the company would go belly up. The threat was quietly forgotten, but word was passed that all internet usage would be constantly monitored (an empty threat, probably - management types not being too good with math.)

The only two guys who actually got fired were found to be actually running porn sites from company servers.

*(Hypocrisy noted: My work computers are my home computers.)

Doesn't bother me a bit... and even if I did have access from work (I don't), I don't think it would bother me as I wouldn't go online unless I was on a break... and I just wouldn't be the type to look at porn from a work computer at all.

Of course, I can access the internet via my cell phone, which is always with me. In my job, however, there's just no time to even think about going on line while at work.

I don't access RJ while I'm at work, there are too many pictures of half naked men to make it safe.

    Dude,

First of all, you've got to get out more often. Put some sunshine on those back hairs.

Second, mandatory to find a new job.

If you cannot do either then take down your pic and post in discretion.

My rule is this. I don't unnecessarily reveal information about myself, my family, my work, or my clients. That is not to say that I don't share that information with people I deem trustworthy in private.

Beyond that if I have to hide in order to be able to work or do whatever then I will accept the consequences and not work, be poor. I will eat dirt but I won't eat shit (and that is what hiding is, eating shit).

There are very prominent people on here who would run risks by revealing their identities and those risks would have negative consequences for a lot of people who depend on those individuals.

I respect the right of people to have a private life even if they are public figures. However, one shouldn't imagine that those details won't come out.

Enough preaching. For myself, I don't give a fiddler's f--k about the time stamp because I am happy with what I say, where I say it, and when I say it. If I say something totally retarded then anyone of you will correct me (ad nauseam) and I will retract it.

I wasn't proud of myself for gloating over Bill Buckley's death. Someone corrected me on what was in very poor taste, and I retracted my words.

    Ciao
    Terry

Then again, if we're accused of a crime we have an alibi.
