Don't let being silly and drunk on NYE lead to unsafe sex with a set of glamour muscles. Remember, about 20% of gay men have HIV, but if you look around RealJock, the rate seems to be down around 3% - meaning most guys with HIV either lie about having it, or they don't know.

sadly many still lie as they don't want to deprive their dick of the party, and would rather risk taking another sick, than let their dick miss out. Ignorance is no excuse either. if you have not been tested but partaken in unsafe sex, you should assume you are in fact HIV+.

Yeah, I always thought it odd that the numbers of gay men who are HIV positive are always so high according to official statistics but very, very few of those guys seem to be online. icon_confused.gif

I think a good mentality to have is to assume any guy you're hooking up with has some kind of STD so that you'd be much more inclined to wrap it up. Men are sluts after all.

Or the kind of guys who would participate on a site like RealJock: Gay health and Fitness care more about the health of their body than the average gay male and, as a result, have a lower rate of HIV infection.

20%?! Maybe in a large American city with a large gay populus. o.0

Statistically in Canada only 0.2% of the population has HIV, (1 in 500) and even if 100% of people with HIV were gay men, (if my memory serves is actually about 60%) taking into account that approximately 10% of the population is gay, so 5% of the overall population are gay men, that makes 50k fags in 1 million people, and in one million people you'll have 2000 people infected with HIV, 2000/50 000 = 0.04 = 4%

    Apparently I'm bored. >.>

Yeah, I'm not worried. Not that I'm a barebacking, needlesharing, cumlsut anyway. Be safe guys. :3

Yeah, I think about this all the time with 'drunk' people and STDs. I never get drunk - yeah, I hear the gasps right now - but I do it more for protection purposes more than anything else. The easiest way to become a 'victim' is to get drunk and become an easy target for a predator (thief, rapist, etc.). The fact I'm not a big alcohol drinker helps, but I am also smart enough to know that getting drunk is tantamount to becoming an easy target. I can't tell you how many of my drunken undergrad peers were victims of rape, robbery, attempted murder, etc. I see getting drunk as a security threat myself... just saying.

I've been pretty drunk before but I've always managed to control myself. I think people just use that as an excuse- "oh I was drunk... it didn't mean a thing." Pffffft- liars.

My point is that your 'faculties' are not as alert and functional as they could and should be. You are more likely to be a target for a criminal, or to put yourself into a situation that would lead to unwanted results.

While I was in college, I had a drunk guy break into my apartment and demand I get out of "his" apartment. I ended up literally throwing him out of my apartment. I wasn't gentle either. After diplomacy failed, I man-handled him out of my apartment. I know he probably had bruises on his arms and faces at the very least.... a fracture to his arm at the most.

Several people I went to college with were raped and robbed. One was stabbed in the stomach during a strong-armed robbery. Another was shot in the abdomen during a robbery. The connection to it all... they were all drunk when they were attacked.

I know I'm sidelining the HIV aspect of the thread, but the fact of the matter is that when you are intoxicated, you are at greater risk than you otherwise would be if you weren't intoxicated.

    TWENTY PERCENT!?!?!?!??!?

This has nothing to do with HIV, but I'm not doing shit for 2011. I'm boycotting the year because when written down it looks aesthetically unpleasant. Who would celebrate for such a hideous looking year?

MuchMoreThanMuscle saidWow, correlating HIV+ people with robbers and rapists.

    How histrionic.

If two people meet for the first time there is no way for one to know how drunk the other person is, or how high that person is. That can only be known by people who know you well.

There is no victim when you decide to drink in excess or take drugs. Unless someone drugs you without your knowledge. But we are not talking about that here. The only victim I could see is if a drunk or drugged up person gets into a car and kills another person because they were too stupid to get behind a wheel in the first place.

This thread is ridiculous. The victims are those that are "negative" who make the choice themselves to drink or do drugs in excess and engage in sex without condoms. The HIV+ people are those that lie and have been compared to robbers and rapists.

This bullshit is ludicrous. No wonder people who are HIV- have so much stigma against people who are HIV+.

It wasn't my intention to correlate criminals with people who are HIV+ I was just saying that people are in a compromised state when they are drunk. In such a state, people run the risk of getting into situations that are detrimental to their safety and health.

any thoughts on stating something positive?
    http://www.cdc.gov/nchhstp/newsroom/docs/FastFacts-MSM-FINAL508COMP.pdf
according to CDC, that rate changes drastically depending on city, race and age group.

    the highlight -
There are three essential ways to reduce your risk:
    1. Don’t have sex (i.e., anal, vaginal or oral)
    2. Only have sex (i.e., anal, vaginal or oral) if you’re in a mutually monogamous relationship with a partner you know is not infected
    3. Use a condom every time you have anal, vaginal or oral sex. (Correct and consistent use of the male latex condom is highly effective in reducing HIV transmission.)

there is also something to be said about socially responsible people too. hook up sites will likely have a higher instance of people with STI (sexually transmitted infections) RealJock is not a hookup site.

Right to the point. Unless you are raped, safety while having sex is an individual responsibility, and personal choice.
Nobody would frown upon someone having a car because cars kill thousands of people a year.

Well, that is what you did. You along with a couple others in this thread and with countless others on this site and throughout the gay community. The general consensus is that HIV- men are victims and "good." And HIV+ men lie and are out to "hurt" the victims. But you know what is idiotic about this rational? Once your virtuous "victims" become HIV+ (through their own behavior) they immediately become part of the "sinister" HIV+ group of people who lie and are considered "bad." So you sway from empathizing and wanting to "care" to ostracizing and casting harsh judgments.

For those of you that think this way - your logic is so fucked up.

I'm sorry that is how you took my comments. It wasn't my objective to vilify HIV+ people.

    Or- (again)- they lie.

*Remember: Lying about your HIV status is a crime

It is getting really annoying that all the blame is put on men who have HIV and lie. It is time for men who engage in bareback sex who are negative to take accountability for their actions as well.

And besides, trying to prove that your one time New Year's trick gave you HIV and taking him to court will only cause a lot of people a lot of aggravation. Proving that just one person gave you HIV when you whored it up and chose NOT to use protection with basically someone you only knew for a few short hours will put all the scrutiny on you and YOUR behavior. Not the person who has HIV.

    Hear hear!!

I had a friend exposed to HIV - thankfully he was treated in time and did not become positive, however, whilst discussing it I asked if he had inquired, at all, about the other person's sexual habits. Did you ask if they had been tested recently? Did you ask, or make any mention, about the risks or any kind of misgivings you might have (i.e. I'm neg, get tested regularly, looking to stay that way - yourself?)?

Biggest question - DID YOU USE A CONDOM? (obviously not)

Everyone likes to blame everyone else but them self when it comes to misfortunes and poor decisions. At the end of the day, yes, the person you're having sex with should be responsible enough to tell you if they have HIV. But if you don't ask, or if they don't know...if you don't protect yourself...no one's going to do it for you.

While I can understand a top having misgivings about using a condom, my answer, if met with a negative response to my "I use condoms" stance, is a negative response to someone who has "issues" using a condom.

As a bottom there is ABSOLUTELY NO FUCKING REASON WHY YOU SHOULDN'T MAKE THE TOP USE A CONDOM. It doesn't "feel better" for a bottom, it makes absolutely no fucking difference, and you're playing with your life.

1 hour of rockin sex does not make up for what you go through once you're infected. There are people with HIV who live healthy, full lives, but it's NOT easy, and it's not worth it.

    Like, at all.
