I hear ya bro. It's a shame you actually have to seek that out. Hence, why I will be with all straight friends on New Years.

Does it matter that you have to be in a gay scene with gay people. Because I thought it mattered more that you were with people who cared and appreciated you.

dude, you're in los angeles. the problem is you're 19 and can't get in gay dives like Roster Fish. join a gay men's sports team or be a log cabin republican.

well obviously, but sometimes you don't wanna feel like the minority and hang with other gays, and i don't think being 19 is really the problem, i'm talking about stuff completely separate of the club/bar scene

Same here. It's looking like I'll be chilling with some of my best friends who are straight with kids.

It is too bad there aren't more gay sports bars and stuff that are a little more laid back. Sometimes the whole club scene is fun but it's usually a little tired from what I've seen.

Try gayoutdoors.com. If you like outdoor hiking, kayaking, etc. this place is for you. You choose your location, activity, and difficulty setting. Then wait for events. Some states have a lot, some do not. I have been on two of them in Connecticut and had a good time. You meet people, exchange stories, exercise, and maybe make a friend. Check it out.

    OP - I hear what you´re saying.

It seems in mainstream gay culture if you´re not downing a bottle of pills, dancing like a demon and jumping everyone around you - you´re an outcast.

My advice is to head down to the local pub with your mates ( gay or stricon_cool.gif and be yourself. Meet my ex and the str8 pub so it can happen!

Log Cabin Republican - I had to look this up on Google! icon_surprised.gif

Not sure what qualifies as a republican homosexual activity other than closet dwelling, but in terms of mainstream alternatives you could do a lot of things really. Join a gay sports team, find (or organize) hiking / climbing type stuff, chill at a non-gay-bar with gay people drinking a beer, uh.. although often harder to find, there are typically gays who do all of the stuff straight people do (including sex with women as it turns out). I dunno, it's not rare I go out with a couple of gay friends and just drink beer while discussing science, philosophy, religion etc, for example. And while I find watching sports fairly boring (playing them is a lot of fun but fuck if i want to watch others have fun) I bet it wouldn't take too much looking to find a group of gay guys who are sports fanatics. The trick is that you DO actually have to look though. It won't ever come to your doorstep like straight people having those interests do, because as it turns out gays love to be in their underwear dancing around.

There are many other things you can do besides go to gay bars.

One idea: join a gay sports team/club. There are gay running clubs, gay tennis teams, volleyball, softball, wrestling, sailing, hiking clubs, biking, basketball....

Pick any non-gay passion/interest of yours, then look around.... in LA, there is bound to be a gay group of guys who share that interest. Look on Google, meetup.com, facebook, etc...

LOL so funny this is the first thing i opened not knowing you read it.

You need to either switch cities or find a group of friends who are as imaginative and intelligent as you are...which will be moderately difficult in this area. =(
