I was going through a box of old pictures and thought of a nice light hearted forum topic. Who where you when you were younger?

So, I will kick it off with a pic from my freshman year in college. I which I had that hair still but what was I thinking with the sideburns and goatee?

When I was a teenager, I was more of the stereotypical 'flamer'. I was more in-your-face about being gay. Growing up in Thunder Bay where gay people weren't so visible, I thought it was important to make it visible.

So I ran around with my platinum blonde hair, erect penis earring, neacklace with the word faggot, wearing PVC, leopard print, mesh and enough tacky jewelery to weigh down an elephant.

    (photos will NOT be provided!)

I look back and cringe at my whole style. Baggy everything. I was probably 130lbs in high school but wore size 42 pants and baggy shirts. Cross colors were in style one year....Ugg, what was I thinking. I thought I was so cool and tough.

PS, Webinfront: I like the whole freshman year ensemble, including the side burns.

It looks like your barber appointment was a hair-raising experience. It could have been worse .. it could have been a brush with death.

I would put my youth picture up but I don't know how to upload stone carvings and such .. but here is me and my dog playing fetch on a sunny day ..

The prime years of my youth ('86-'92) were stylistically defined by one characteristic.

    The mullet.

I even sprayed "Sun In™" on my mullet to turn it (and only it, *not* the rest of my hair) blonde during the first year. The Kentucky Waterfall really shimmered that summer!

    I hope I can find a pic.

Not that I'm really old enough to partake in this thread yet, but Web's mohawk pic struck a chord with me...

This one is neon pink... I never did get a good picture of it. It glowed under blacklight.
    Picture4.jpg

Orange and blue mohawk. The sides started out just bleach white, until I realized I looked like a skinhead, so on went the blue.
    E32006.jpg

Omaha Pride 2006. Some friends of mine played 'I Spy' with my hair, and another dubbed me Lord Tang.

I tried turning my hair neon green, but the color came out pretty bad... swamp wattery like... so I rebleached and used leftover blue and pink dye. This one actually got the most comments, even more then the dayglow orange.

Granted these were only taken about 2 1/2 years ago.

Hmm...I have no photos from those days of yore - 1988 through say, 1996. Why? I was fat and avoided all photographers and family snapshots! Literally. There is a multi-year period from which there are no photos of me.

So my look was lots of loose black clothing. Long curly hair - my hair is very curly when it grows out - and clunky shoes. I didn't have a genrefied look per se - I wasn't goth or Seattle grunge or preppy. I wasn't even farmboy looking. I was just...blah. Which is what I wanted. To blend in and be unnoticed.

And you survived? Thunder Bay is more tolerant than I thought. I can now understand your reluctance to share photos, the leopard print I could do without.

I was conservative looking in my late teens and early twenties.

This picture was taken August 1981, age 20. The 3 german shephards are the highlight of the photo (I love dogs).

Me too! Other than a few yearbook photos during the 80's (the fat years), I've got nothing. For the record, I went from metal-head, to punk during that decade.

I don't think anyone's actual age matters with respect. We were all younger.

    The hair is fantastic.

I think a lot of people did (myself included)! Although I was the kid getting made fun of by the other skaters cuz I listened to the Grateful Dead and skated...in addition to The Ramones, Bad Brains, etc etc etc....

They were on DeaD tour too within 5 years...

    Awwwww. Still just as cute.

And is it just me, or do the German Shepard's in Mr. Edwards "way-back machine" picture, somehow, when added to the short cut-offs, make that shot seem like the opening scene of an 8mm porn film? I can imagine the other hot mustachioed guy just off camera jogging by in the next frame...

    "Hey, great dogs!"

    "Thanks, great body."

    Bow chicka bow bow...
