It was New Year's Eve and I was watching episode after episode of Ugly Betty on DVD, alone in my apartment. (It is the only thing I have in hand.) How sad is that? I didn't realize it was 2011 already until I was rattled by a deluge of fireworks going off outside my window.

I guess there must be millions of happy people sharing this moment with their loved ones across my timezone. I wish I were one of them.

Felices fiestas y un próspero año nuevo. Especially to those who are also alone.

I am "alone" this New Year, but still going out. I know a few of the bartenders and employees, so it won't feel "alone" because they'll keep me nice and drunk. Who knows, I might even get laid. icon_razz.gif

Yeah, but you're always getting laid...ya jerk. icon_lol.gif

Colour me: alone but not lonely.
Not "always" but yeah, getting laid here is not exactly difficult.
It would be fun to go out with other people, though; but people around here are so fucking lazy that they won't drive 30 minutes to go to South Beach. They're like "omg it's soooo far!"

It always feels weird talking to someone in the bar, telling them where I live, and their response is always "omg you drove that far? Nobody ever comes here from up there!" I'm like "bitch it's only 30 minutes, IF the traffic is bad."

People here are just lazy as fuck when it comes to driving. icon_lol.gif

Alone doesn't have to equal lonely.
And, it's easy for some people to be lonely with people all around.
Read a book, watch movies, play around on the computer, go to a bar, go to a sex club, go to a dance club.

Any time that you want people around, throw a party, invite guys over for a game night (cards, for instance), host a buffet dinner, host a pot luck dinner, throw a party for whatever holiday, or for no reason at all.

Yeah, lots of other people in your boat tonight. But alone, not lonely. Cheer up. Things will look brighter in the morning.

I think I'm a loner at heart and I also work in the hospitality industry so I'm usually working weekends and holidays. It's all good. While the rest of the world is working and back to their regular life's I can travel to a destination and take in the scenery, culture food and people.

I'm alone this year and will be working early along with a double shift for New Year's Day though it's o.k. Having myself as company isn't all that bad.

    -I'm never late

    -I don't flake on myself

    -I can exceed my expectations

-I'll be there in the morning

    ;-)

Happy '11 guys. Hope we all find healthy, happy opportunities

maybe I'm weird but last year I spent new years by myself.... I didn't feel alone, I actually enjoyed it. I wouldn't want to every year though LOL

funny you're in Groningen, I usually visit (Zuidbroek) for a judo camp every year between christmas and new years, but not this year (for some reason). I could have kept you company if I did ;D

Being single, New Years' sucks. But, I'm okay. It's not my first NYE solo.

Hope 2011 brings you the change you're looking for.

You live in Groningen.... I've been there, not the biggest town, but not exactly small.. Suggestion for next year: Make some friends in Groningen and spend New Year's eve with them. icon_wink.gif

Nothing to do there? Man it's a student town, isn't there some random drinking and mischief going on on the Grote Markt (the square)?

Oh, and by the way - wtf southbeach has been to Groningen icon_eek.gif wow that's random

30 minutes I agree that is nothing, I remember when I lived in rural Ohio and would drive over an hour to go to Columbus to the bars

Here's an old man's take; at 25 I did the same. I worked shift as an operator for the phone co and New Year's was often bleak, with me getting off at 10 PM and starting again at 6 AM. Home was 45 minutes from the office. I sure sympathize with you on the alone thing. Yeeks, and steamed broccoli and rice for dinner because I was too beat for anything else.

Now didn't that sound just like one of those grandparent stories about going to school and then home in the snow in pajamas and uphill both ways? icon_lol.gif
