I like to go for a massage about once a week because they're only about $10-20 for an hour here (and no, I don't go to get jerked off).

Is it bad to go after a strenuous work out? I read somewhere that deep tissue massage can damage the muscle fibers?

Anyone with some expertise in this area your feedback is appreciated.

according to what i was taught, deep tissue massage can be done a couple of days after the work out. i wouldn't suggest it right after a workout though, as it may damage the muscle tissue. light to medium massage to help stimulate the lymphatic system and squeeze out the lactic acid build up in the muscles to help them recover would be more beneficial right after a workout.

(i went to school for massage)

As far as what most of the masseurs have told me you should wait for sometime before getting any massage after work out, esp if there is any inflammation in the muscles.

Where on earth do you go that it's $10-$20 for an hour?

You're damaging the muscle fibers by working out. That's what causes the muscle to be rebuilt bigger. Massage only aids that process. I looked at your profile and can only imagine that the reason why you pay $10-20 is because you're in Beijing. If that were in the U.S., I would seriously question the massage therapist's credentials.
