I've needed some new lifting shoes for a bit here. Right now I have some all-around gym shoes.

I was wondering what y'all recommend for lifting shoes, not running or tennis shoes. Any particular brand, style? Also, what makes them better than regular shoes?

    Thanks!

I dunno what everyone else wears or if there is a pro shoe made just for lifting, but I have stuck with New Balance cross-trainers for the past 5-6 years or so. I like them because they are comfortable, lightweight, and they are very stable, which is great for squats and deadlifts.

Go to zappos.com and see what they have, or if you live in the SF bay area I recommend Sports Basement.

NewBalance here too. Their cross trainers are very stable and comfortable. Running shoes too, but I've tried Champion and also Asics. Both are good too.

I discovered that cheap nike or adidas cross trainers or runners are fine. something with a solid rubber heel for support - especially for squats - , no air, no springs, no rubber bumpers. Especially not nike air. they always go flat after a while.
