A question, not an accusation: Do you think posting a large number of photos on here (say more than a dozen) often indicates a low self-esteem or insecurity? Discussion . . .

I think that its not necassarily low self esteem - some people, such as myself, enjoy sharing their photos to give people an idea of where they go out, and what sort of things they do.

However, in terms of photos and low self esteem... its more about the type of photos you see... for instance, you can view a profile and see that the user has uploaded several photos of them posing and pulling their "sexy face" and they all look the same.... THAT is low self esteem.

No, it's a visual description of them. We had lots of pics at one time. We may mount a whole slew of them in the future.

That's very interesting because many a times I have wondered that too. I always wondered if people who post a lot of 'beauty pics' of themselves (like so many that the page is littered with their face/body) are either narcissistic and/or insecure. Because to me, it feels like they/we have something to prove, as if they/we are trying to live up to a certain image or something because we are not satisfied with the reality.

However, at this point in time I believe that even if they are insecure or a bit vain, they can still be good people. After all, we all have certain insecurities and vanity about ourselves that are caused partly by our media-dominated society.

*I wouldn't really see a dozen as that many. Around 20 or so pics that are mostly of their face/body I would say is just a taaad bordering vanity lol*

I have a large number of photos posted here, near the limit, but almost all private that I only share with a few other members. And most aren't OF me, but ABOUT me, pics in which I don't even appear. Places I've been, things I like, things I do. Of all the criticisms I receive, having low self-esteem is usually not among them.

I always thought it was more narcissistic than anything.

If you had low self-esteem, I'd think you wouldn't want to have any of your pics taken

This is my first instinct too. But pictures are a way of telling people about yourself. When 9/10 of your pictures are of you with a drink in your hand, you obviously like to party, if 9/10 are of you in some performance, you're a performer, if 9/10 are retouched modeling shots, you're either gorgeous or....icon_rolleyes.gif

    uh?

    I got 23 pictures

15 of those are just random pics of myself in chronological order lol.
4 of them are modeling shots I kinda liked
8 of them involve my best friends or relatives.

I have deleted since I joined RJ over 100 pictures. I just try keep the most recent ones. Come on guys, a bunch of pictures of yourself shouldn't be a "concern" on a fitness website.

If I had signed up a few years ago, I would never have posted my bod pics. But ever since I started to body build I've been able to put of bod pics because I feel now I am comfortable enough to show my progress.

Of course I still have an ugly duckling complex but that has to do with having no suitable datable guy in my neck of the woodsicon_confused.gif
