    **Breaking Weather News**

I figured I'd chime in here to warn all my brothers (and sisters, lol) that a severe arctic outbreak is about to grip the country---an arctic airmass that hasn't hit since 1989.

While the details are sketchy, it appears as though record temps in Siberia (-85 degrees F) will move into the polar regions and build in Canada. If and only if the models are right, temperatures in MT/WY would struggle to have HIGH TEMPS of -30 degrees F.

    For Meteorologist Types:

All global models (CMC, GFS, and ECMWF) show incredible pressures building over the Yukon with the latest 12z Euro showing a STUNNING synoptic pattern of a 1070 mb high building and moving south (1062 over Montana). The GFS has also shown this evolving pattern for a week now. One thing I am watching is for the McFarland Signauture and it appeared today on the Euro. The omega block will drive this incredibly cold air south, lee of the Rockies, and right into Texas. Houston could have snowfall with temps in the LOW TEENS. Looking at the latest runs, the isoheights are vertical from Canada to Mexico which would allow one of three arctic fronts to wedge themselves deep into the Gulf of Mexico putting us in the midst of a very intense freeze that could potentially last for days...even in places like Dallas and Houston where prolonged freezes occur once a decade...if not longer.

Reading the AFD's this morning, clearly OUN and DFW have really bitten off on a historic freeze. OUN this morning said and I quote: "...IN ANY EVENT THE PATTERN CONTINUES TO SUGGEST A TURN TOWARD SIGNIFICANT AND POTENTIALLY SEVERE WINTER WEATHER IN SOME WAY SHAPE OR FORM - THE STUFF NATIONAL HEADLINES ARE MADE OF - BY SOMETIME NEXT WEEK." Looking at the latest runs, the -20 isotherms reach Colorado and since many of those locations are above 850 anyway, we're talking about temps of -30F in Colorado and Wyoming. The -10 isotherm reaches Austin, TX.

I will try and keep this thread updated. Any met types out there, feel free to do the same. At this point, people all across the eastern 2/3 of the country should heed the warning.

For once, I wish the conspiracy nuts were right about something....the HAARP for instance...it's supposepdly been keeping hurricanes from striking Gutanamo Bay
    {one has to wonder...there were no major 'canes to enter the Gulf of Mexico in all of 2009-2010, were there? icon_wink.gif }

If it were true, don't you wish the sumbitches would turn on the one allegedly in Alaska and send this coldfront back over to Russia!?!

I think this is nature's way to ensure that everybody in the US ignores the "heat waves" elsewhere (like, ironically, in the Arctic, and Russia):

Yeah, if 4 degrees extra can be considered tropical.
Hey the South Pole has both--you can ski and sunbathe just by going from one to the other (see just south of South America). icon_lol.gif

Yo q1!!! theres more than just temperature... the South Caribbean rainfall this year has been higher than ever before, not just by a bit, but around here we've had DOUBLE THE AVERAGE RAINFALL in a single year... the whole community is upset, we've never experienced this before and the cities arent built to withstand this rainfall at all.. causing much flood damage in places that have never seen or experienced it

Not to mention the sailors and surfers are seeing unheard of wind patterns, with the tradewinds coming almost from the South-east instead of the north-east for several years now...

So I dont know if its global "warming" or global "dimming" all I know is this weather aint normal, and its not just a single day.. its years on end

U.S. needs to go to war with Mexico again and win so we can all run down South and bask in the warmth.icon_cool.gif

Global warming causes more extremes, hence colder Winer and hotter Summer.

oh GOD. Better stock up on food like right now! I'm in LA and am having a blast laughing at people who think 45 degrees is freezing. Although to be fair 45 degrees isn't quite warm either.

lol. I would kill for some 45 degree weather.
It just barely made it to double digits today. Suppose to warm up a little bit this week, but then this front is suppose to move in and we'll be back to 0F or lower. x.x

Go read the other multiple threads on this. It's been carefully explained, over and over and over. Warming in the Arctic results in more highly amplified swings in the jet stream, bringing the Arctic air masses southward.

Those Arctic air masses may be warmer than normal for the Arctic, say 10F instead of 0 pr -5F...but bring 10F into aggiedude's backyard and in Phoenix, and we are subjected to the ridiculous "I have 10 inches of global warm liberal plots in my backyard...."

As I said in the other threads, and others have said, you guys are extremely vocal, but fortunately, science is winning out...the data, for example the temperature maps posted above, don't lie.
