Frustrated! Don't know how to figure out the amount of weight I should be lifting?

Has anyone else done this program that's been featured on this site? The 12-week strength training thingy for beginners? http://www.realjock.com/workout/1057

It said in the FAQ that I should be reaching fatigue at the end of the set, such that the next rep after the last one can't be done without sacrificing proper form. But I'm having difficulty figuring out where I should be. Okay, so it's day 1 of week 1 of the program so there hasn't been much time for me to have on that. But how quickly do they expect those weight amounts to be figured out in the program? By the end of the first day?

I totally agree with the program. Much better to be lifting lighter and using very proper, clean form than to lift heavier and screwing it all up. But a couple exercises I still need getting used to, because I really am not sure if I'm doing proper form on them, even with light weights. Most notably, the dumbbell chest presses and the seated rows. I've always had trouble knowing if I was doing proper form with my back exercises. Often I feel like my back isn't doing the work so much, but it's more my arm muscles. Maybe I was lifting too heavy. icon_neutral.gif

Hire a personal trainer... /some/ can offer you some decent feed back on form, but if they're too expensive you can also look at your reflection in the mirror while you're preforming a certain exercise and (mentally) superimpose the guy's silhouette from the training videos over yours-

To find the weight for max-rep fatigue you are basically supposed to do trial and error............ If you can do the set max (15) easily with one weight- then you should add five pounds- then five more- etc. until you reach a decent weight (12-15 reps)

Again.... hire a trainer... even if it's only for 1-2 sessions.
