BreatheHeavy.com just received a press release from a big radio station that says the following:
    quote:

    BRITNEY SPEARS FANS IN COMMAND

On Monday, January 10th Britney fans worldwide will be encouraged to share a message on Facebook 2 million times.

Once this is accomplished, her new single, “Hold It Against Me” is unlocked for radio & for immediate sale on i-Tunes.

Sony Music Canada is offering the opportunity to Canadian stations to have their listeners participate through a customized Facebook widget that listeners can then forward.

This is the type of gimmick you have to resort to when whatever career you had (even if you never deserved it) has gone down the shitter....

Hey, it's a free market dude. The masses want crap, so crap they receive.

Any career is "deserving" as long as you make money, the "deserving" part being determined by the marketplace.

I don't see what the negative flaw is? "This is what they have to resort too"...meaning? This is just how the music industry is moving towards too. A more interactive social media frenzy.

Under regular circumstances I would agree, but sweetie, there's so much fail in this statement when it is said about Britney Spears. Her last #1 debuted at #1 without a single performance, promotion, music video, tweet, anything and stayed on the top 10 for 11 weeks #Fail

And op, that news from BH is COMPLETE bullshit, or as we call it, Bullshitheavy.com. I wouldn't depend on BH "exclusives." In order for a song to be released (unless it leaks), there needs to be a press release. Jive is not going to release the song unless they first release a notice that will also say when the album will come out, what it is named, etc.

lol @ anyone who thinks that Britney's career has dampen. Even during her breakdown, her album sold well. Watch out for 2011.

You may not be a Britney fan, but you are misinformed if you think Britney has to do anything to resurrect her career. In fact, that career never left. Britney made over $64 million in 2010 thanks to residuals of her 2009 CIRCUS tour (in which she made over $35 million), her clothing line with KOHL's, and her line of fragrances --- beating out Lady Gaga, Madonna, Ellen DeGeneres, and Judge Judy as one of FORBES magazines Top 12 grossers in entertainment. Not even remotely close to a career that has "gone down the shitter"

There's no accounting for taste of the masses.
So we'll be subject to her computerized vocals to computerized beats in 2011. Hard to get excited about. I never will understand why gay dudes worship pop tarts like Brit Brit.

Let's also add that she is the 3rd most followed artist on twitter, 2nd days ago before Bieber beat that, but these days Gaga and Beiber are unstoppable.

I heard the song is gonna be released on the 7th....has that changed?

Nobody can deny Britney knows how to make money and command attention.

    britney-spears-kiss-madonna.jpg

Christina Aguilera also kissed Madonna, but was barely noticed. Christina also has the better singing voice, but Britney has an entrancing appeal her contemporaries have yet to discover. I wish Aguilera would market herself better she does possess a great set of pipes.

Yes, but consider Lady Gaga has only been on the music scene for 2 years and Britney is a good dozen or so by now. Britney wasn't even close to that earning power, fame, or critical acclaim when she released Baby One More Time, and frankly, aside from sales, she'll never be.

Hahah! I don't see a movie made around Lady GaGa, countless Lady GaGa cameos in movies and tv shows, concert specials for various networks for Lady GaGa, the best selling celebrity perfume line ever, toys, memorabilia, sponsorships with major international brands - therefore, your "Britney wasn't even close to that earning power/fame argument = #Fail. The hype around Lady GaGa is not even close to the hype around Britney Spears, in the U.S. OR internationally....I wasn't even in the U.S. when Britney first came out and the hype around her was A LOT BIGGER than Lady GaGa.

Just chiming in here since I grew up with Britney - I don't see GaGa being the same kind of phenomenon - she's massive, yes, but there were even specials on prime tv networks (not just MTV) devoted to Britney regarding her background, showing concert footage, interviews with family and friends in special hour long segments. I don't see that happening anymore - not that GaGa doesn't warrant it, but it's things like this that make me feel the Britney phenomenon was larger. Plus the massive HBO special in 2001 before she even hit 20 years old. Plus Pepsi, the superbowl, grand marshal for Nascar - Britney was everywhere. Maybe GaGa doesn't want this though? But if not her, then why no one else? Katy Perry? Rhianna? the other "big" players in the game?

When you say movie you mean Crossroads? Roger Ebert said about it "I went to Crossroads expecting a glitzy bimbofest and got the bimbos but not the fest." The film sucked ass. Besides, what does Lady Gaga, as a musician, need from making bad film? And you're still missing the point. I remember when Britney debuted: she was not even close to this in terms of money or fame. She didn't take home her first grammy until Toxic. She had two 1 number singles: Hit Me Baby One More Time... and ten years later Womanizer. Both of Gaga's lead singles went number 1. Britney has ten plus years on Gaga, and she only eeked out 2 more million... on royalties. Gaga is outpacing Britney financially when you compare their careers and has critically surpassed her.

I think what Britney lacked in #1 singles, she earned in album sales. Britney was never a radio star in my opinion - she lacked there. But does Lady GaGa have any #1 albums?

All I am reminded of when reading all of these posts is when Chris Crocker said "LEAVE BRITNEY ALONE!!!" hahaha
