I am starting the new Billy Polson workout. My gym does not have a graviton pull up machine and I've always been terrible at being able to do pull ups on my own without assistance. Any recommendations about replacement exercises that I can do in place of the graviton that will help build up to doing unassisted pull ups?

Jump. The momentum will get you to the top of the pull. Then let yourself down very slowly. Repeat.

Also, you can try using resistance bands. Look around your gym for those thick, black and multicolored flat looking heavy resistance bands. You can use them for assisted pull ups, they are great.

Also, try the kip technique. You can Youtube it it explains it pretty well.

    Kipping is evil!

You can also start with static holds... get up to the top position and hold it for 10 seconds. Do that 5 or 10 times with rest.

Then you can do VERY slow negatives (ie climb up, hold the top position and then release down SLOWLY)... very hard .

Then I guess you can kip. But know that you are doing a moral evil.
