Is 5'7 considered short? I always thought that I was more average height. I think 5'6 and under is short.

5'8, but round up to 5'9 jus for laughs, i really don't have a problem w/ my height, used to get underestimated cause i was super skinny, but the gym fixed that, only time i ever notice is when i'm in a crowded bar, it can feel like i'm always lookin up at ppl. i do wonder what it would be like to be 6'3 tho, prolly always hit ur head on shit n cant fit into small sports cars lol

LOL. You can't create the definition to be conveniently to your "advantage". Average male height is about 5'9", maybe even up to 5'10" now.

True_blue_aussie saidI suppose thats where the Napoleon effect comes in, where short people try to make themselves seem taller, by being big in aggression. I'm pleased I've never been afflicted with such a mental health issue, because all the guys I ever dated where all 6'0" and over, and I have always been at peace with that, but then I too have presence.

What a sad and pathetic thing to say. When I posted my entire text above, to encourage short guys like me to not be intimidated in life, I hoped it would give inspiration to men whom society often discriminates against. Many studies have shown this.

I don't think I'm Napoleon, but I do think I can look any other man in the eye. That's what my Army Lieutenant friend said in my story, and why I shared it here. Here's another:

Within a couple of years of that incident I wrote about above I had returned to college, because with nothing more than a high school diploma I knew my Army career as an Officer was doomed. Indeed, it was exceptional I had even been commissioned in the first place, but I was a Holy Terror in those days, hard to believe it now, and my Army promotions came so fast they made my head spin.

Do you know I was a PFC/E-3 for only 3 weeks before I got my next promotion to E-4? All under 6 months of enlisting in the Army. As an Australian you won't know what that means, but some of the US guys here who wore a uniform will understand what it represents.

So OK, I'm trying to get a college degree to save my career, any degree, and I have to avoid anything with math or science, because I'm just too stupid for technical stuff. And so I chose Speech and Theatre, cause I can talk and I like that stuff. More ironic than I realized at the time.

And I have this acting class, and a graduate student working on his degree in directing has us doing stuff on stage. And he he tells me to improvise this scene. So I jump up there and try to do my best (which was never very good when it came to acting).

And when I finished he complimented me for looking like a "big" cowboy, as the scene required, and using my height to reinforce the role. And I walked over to him, stood next to him, he being much taller than me, and showed him what a runt I really was.

Yah know, you're as tall as you act. I can create the illusion of height for myself as easily as somebody can do a Photoshop manip.

And it has nothing to do with Napoleon complexes, which I know do exist. I simply don't think in terms of height, not for myself nor for anyone else. Height is not a factor I consider.

I do, however, think in terms of command and mastery. And when I do, people THINK I'm taller, because in their minds I ACT taller. In our society, command tends to equal height, and so they imagine me to be taller than I am. I've seen this many times.

I'm not a martinet, and I'm not Napoleon, I have no interest in conquests, but people instantly know that I'm in charge. Something I got from my parents, I think, cause it's nothing I ever desired. As a kid I was extremely shy and retiring, almost reclusive, and a total nerd, though always kinda outdoorsy. How I turned out this way completely amazes me.

And apparently, it shows to others. Let it show for the other short guys here, too, if they wish it. Be the man you want to be, and to Hell with height stereotypes.

I think shorter guys often are able to put on muscle more easily than taller guys. I once dated a guy that was about 5'4 or 5'5 and he had the most beautifully symmetrical body. Plus, short guys seem to stay youthful looking longer than taller guys. Great things can come in small packages!

Wow, didn't realize there were so many shorties on RJ!

I'm just shy of 5' 7", don't feel short until I'm hanging with a group of my 6' friends. I would have loved to have been 5' 9", but I'm cool with it. Plus I fit well with my man, so I'm happy!
