It would have to be a weapon that only attacks one bird species, and one variety of fish. Which appears to also eliminate pollutants. Although drum fish are bottom feeders, leading one to speculate about some kind of spill of a chemical heavier than water that would hug the river bottom, the Arkansas River also has lots of catfish, another bottom feeder, and they don't seem to have been affected. Interesting mystery to solve.

Hmm, I'm not with Huffington on this one. There is no reason to put all these phenomena together and suggest they have any relationship, especially the birds.

Nobody says they have a relationship..but they are all happening around the same time... that is a mystery on top of the mystery of such mass deaths

I thought there was an article in Nature or Science recently that demonstrated that the solar system has already passed through the center of the Milky Way, which was the event many predicted would be the cause of the Mayan calendar end of the world.

As for the birds, some angry farmer could have put something on some corn he then spread out somewhere for the birds to eat, causing them to then fly off and die.

EDIT: So some physics nerds explain the solar system part here -

So all these farmers did it to birds all over the world, and some fishermen all over the world decided to do it to a specific school of fish? All at the same time, perchance, perhaps, perfectly possible...

Then there would be a lot of dead middle aged men. (Or at least many with facial disfigurements.)

    I was being facetious. icon_neutral.gif

It seems more likely these are phenomenon that occur periodically but in pre-web2.0 days, were less publicized. The HuffPo article points out similar fish death incidents in the 1970s and 80s.

If everyone on the planet simultaneously blacks out for a few minutes ten years from now, then we will know that we are simply living thru the plot of a failed ABC television series.

That link seems to be someone posing the question, not stating a fact. Our solar system lies toward the edge of the galaxy, and would take eons to traverse to the galactic center. Which it wouldn't do anyway because of gravitational forces. If anything, we would move farther away from the center, unless drawn by something gravitationally immense, like a black hole.

Here's an article that describes 10 incidents of mass bird and fish casualties around the world. Doesn't have the dogs, but still a pretty good summary of everything.
