My gym is so incredibly crowded with all these new members and existing members that haven't set foot in the place in months. Everyone trying to stick to their new year's resolution of exercising more, I guess.

It just irritates me having to wait around for equipment even though I know by mid February things will be back to normal.

What do you all do? Try to go at less crowded times? Grit your teeth and wait for the equipment to become available? What?

As a habit, I try to go between 1:30pm - 4pm so I never have to deal with the crowds.

    ^this.

The new years resolution folks will only go after work. They won't make the extra effort to go in the morning.

I'm dealing with the same problem as the OP and this is a really good point. New members and members who don't usually use the gym can barely make it to the gym. There's no way they're gonna get themselves up before the sun.

In an ideal world, I'm happy that people are taking the intiative to get in better shape but in reality, it just sucks!

At the base gym they allow the ROTC from the local college on base to use our gym as it has the most equipment in the area and they are in the gym at all odd hours.

What irks my nerve the most about the resolutioners is they have idle chit-chat on machines, horrible form when using weight machines, and they won't allow you to work in.

I'll be patient as I know mid-Feb they going to quit, after getting Valentine chocolates.

I welcome them all with open arms knowing they are the reason my gym membership fee hasn't risen in 5 years.icon_twisted.gif

Start wearing pork chop scented cologne. They'll start getting hungry and leave.

Mine hasn't been too bad. A brand new gym opened up down the street. I think all the newbies went over there.

yikes...I'm definitely no slacker when it comes to working out and I've successfully kept my "gym rat" status card despite being brutalized in medical school; however, I hate waking up at the crack of dawn to work out before class.

That's why I love Gold's Gym. Farthest thing from a "sexy" gym - just freeweights/Hammer machines and a lot of professional bodybuilders/MMA dudes. Intimidation. But the herds thin out just as fast they form.

I've been lucky this January it seems that most of the regulars are taking their time getting back and fewer new members - though just yesterday while I was signing in the receptionist was complaining about the number of people calling about new memberships.

Normally I train very early in the morning but have been able to easily train in the afternoons which has been a strange change.

Don't panic, it won't be long (say 4-6 weeks) when the newcomers will realise their dream body is not going to land in that time and they will lose interest icon_smile.gif

Its like that every year. People make a New Year's resolution of loosing weight and then they all disappear little by little as weeks pass by.

knowing this is tradition after the new year...many alternatives to the box.
crossfit, parkour, HIIT and the workout plans are infinite thru RJ.

do you own rings? TRX? access to a training buddy?

'fore ya know it you won't need the "gym" ever again
