Lady Gaga at CES: Camera Glasses, Anyone?
    By Don Clark

Last year’s appearance by pop star Lady Gaga–who inked a deal with Polaroid to become a creative director for a specialty line of products–generated quite a press scrum at the 2010 Consumer Electronics Show. Now the company plans to show off early fruits of that collaboration at an event later Thursday.

    Polaroid
The GL20 Camera Glasses will be available later this year, at a price to be announced, Polaroid says.
The most flashy is a set of “camera glasses,” which are described as a stylish way to take pictures of what a wearer is seeing. Polaroid says users can instantly capture or upload photos with the built-in camera and then display them on the glasses’ LCD screens for others to see.

“Only Lady Gaga could create a hybrid that’s part fashion statement, part revolutionary technology and part tool for self-expression,” the company says in its marketing materials.

The GL20 Camera Glasses will be available later this year, at a price to be announced, Polaroid says.

Among other items in the GL line–GL stands for “grey label”–the first to arrive is slated to be a portable printer that can quickly make Polaroid-style paper copies of photos shot on a digital camera. The Polaroid GL10 printer is expected to be available in April with a suggested price of $149.99, the company says.

The other gadget being announced is a digital camera that is styled to look like some of the models from the company’s historic line of instant cameras. It comes with a mobile printer built in.

That device, which Polaroid calls the GL30, is expected to arrive in the third or fourth quarter. Pricing has not been set.

Meanwhile, Lady Gaga is scheduled to appear later at Polaroid’s booth. Expect another crowd.

As pirated movies should be. I wouldn't have them any other way!

I predict a fail of epic proportions.

I laughed when I read this:

“Only Lady Gaga could create a hybrid that’s part fashion statement, part revolutionary technology and part tool for self-expression,” the company says in its marketing materials.

One of the funniest, yet most bleak and uninteresting pieces of press release shit I've ever read. As if that 'entertainer' created these, or had anything to do with the creation of this accessory from Hell.

One thing I can say for these glasses that fits into the quote above is that you have to be a partial tool to even want to buy a pair of these things.

I think the glasses only do digital stills, not video.

It's as if Lady GaGa was a pop star in the year 2250 and managed to travel back in time and gradually become even more famous historically by always having that "edge" (knowledge of 200+ years into the future).

Or, she's just a performer who happens to be intelligent and innovative far beyond everyone else. I hope she keeps expanding and doesn't shrivel down into a Michael Jackson, claiming to decades old fame while strolling through Vegas stores pointing to things saying, "I want that, I want that, I want that."

She's popularizing it. Imagine if she suddenly said "I'm going to join an AIDS research laboratory," suddenly we'll have a cure to AIDS in like 6 months.

    You cannot seriously believe that.

Don't joke about things like that. It's not cool. icon_confused.gif

That won't work because you'll have to keep your head perfectly still. so if you can manage that for 2 hours or so... go for it.

I was at the Polaroid booth when she was there. It was a mob scene. We had someone trying to get us in to meet her, but the crowd was too intense.

Sony had Crystal Bowersox singing in their booth. She was pretty f'in amazing.

Yeah I think it just takes a still picture and it displays the image on the sunglasses. Grudges against GaGa aside, that's pretty sweet itself.

oh GOD i hate changing for that reason. Next time I see an iPhone pointed at me and the guy has earplugs on and he says something like, "yeah just give me the address I'm writing it down now" while he's just standing motionless, I'm going to rip it out of his hands and bring the damn phone straight to the front desk of the gym.
