Those of us who live in AZ - particluarly those of us who live here in Gabrielle Giffords district - have seen today's tragedy coming for a long time.

Reckless words inciting violence and using gun imagery have consequences.

She made the mistake some of us will not make, whether spotlight Democrat or spolight Republican: don't move in public unarmed and without security.

There will always be the "weak of mind" who will be influenced by statements made on THIS site by both liberals and conservatives.

    SHE "made the mistake".
    So, it's HER fault?
    Really?
That's your response to this tragedy?
    Blame the VICTIM?

It is more likely some nutcase, plus weak gun control, were to blame.

I knew this was going to happen - it was just a matter of time. Given the political rhetoric of the past few years... I'm surprised more people haven't been killed.

Both Sarah Palin and political opponents of Giffords used all types of gun target imagery during the last campaign. Though there are those that will say "there's no connection, these people didn't TELL anyone to go out and shoot Giffords," this type of imagery is grossly irresponsible, not to mention an affront to the concept of a civilized democracy.

The "nutcase" didn't come up with Gabrielle Giffords as his intended target all by himself.
He was incited to hate her and to choose to target her, by right-wing extremists - and was moved to choose violence by the use of gun imagery/references by the same right-wing extremists.

Now if it had of been a republican like Ms Palin, Bush, or even McCain, it would be permitted to jump with joy, would it not. But I would be surprised to read a republican here doing such a thing, no sadly so much of the hate here belongs to the left.

I was to read in the first reply to the link, was some nut job calming and end to the Nazi party the Republicans. yet the title really belongs to the left in America, as it does in Oz with the Greens.

Well hearing this makes me sad and the only one I blame for this happening is the shooter not the pundits, her security,or her wanting to be out in the middle of the people she represents.Just her shooter no one else.

Hey, Mr. Nutjob Australia -- do you live ln the United States? Have you spent any time here? If not, then can you please shut your ignorant twat up?

Damn thing is, most Americans love Australians, feel a real connection with them. But you do strain the relationship, ya know?

I'd love to hear about your own country, where my sister vacations all the time but I haven't yet been myself. Could you maybe do that for us? Instead of preaching to us Yanks about our own country, of which you clearly know virtually nothing?

Thank you, that would be appreciated.

I think folks should be able to own guns.

    However....

mean spirited rethoric and a lack of mutual respect needs to go.

President Obama IS "President Obama." Not "Obama" or a number of other terms folks use.

It's not "Obama Care" but, rather, "health care reform."

This dumbing down of folks, lack of respect, and preying on ignorant folks, needs to go. Shame on folks like the GOP, The Tea Party, and Palin. They need to start being civil, exercising mutual respect, and tempering the tone of the discussion, rather than inciting crazy, ignorant, folks out on the fringes.

    Here, from Palin's site:

    targeted.jpg

Some folks need to start telling the TRUTH about jobs, and the like, and STOP with the lies, lies, and more lies. It's disgraceful.

Folks are dealing in propaganda, and emotion, rather than facts, with some many issues of the day.

    Here's reality:

In 8 years of George W Bush, we netted about 400,000 jobs, TOTAL. During that time, we gained about 1.5million government jobs, and LOST over 673,000 private sector jobs. That contrasts to President Clinton who created 41 MILLION jobs in 8 years, most in the private sector, with a reduction in government jobs, a balanced budget, and a budget SURPLUS.
President Obama has created more jobs during his time in office, that President Bush did in 8 YEARS.

    JobsPrivateSector.jpg

People are angry because of some of the flat out bull shit they're being told, and they don't research stuff to find out what's true, and what's right wing spin, and it makes some folks crazy angry.

What a twat. We are dealing with a tragedy and even in the arguments in the other threads about this today, people on both sides have expressed some sorrow. But not this idiot. He just goes right into his ignorant crap. Can't even muster up any sympathy for the 19 shot today, six of them fatally. What was his first reaction today after the tragedy? Making a thread about liberals not feeling sympathy for Mary Jo Kopechne's death at Chappaquiddick.

Did he really? I missed that. Why is excrement like this still on our site? I do have to wonder about standards here. icon_confused.gif

Well, who are YOU blaming, Rick Rick -- Republicans? The Tea Party? Sarah Palin? You're so predictable. The person to blame is the messed up 22 year old lunatic who pulled the trigger. Furthermore, if this were Michelle Bachman that were laying in critical condition in a hospital bed with a bullet wound in her head I don't even want to think about the cheering you and others would be doing. This kind of thing is a bi-partisan tragedy. It would be regardless of what political party the victims were from. Blame the pot smoking loner who shot the victims. He probably didn't even have a party affiliation.

    Spot on! Cheers.

And yes, I've been reading he did have a party affiliation but will wait till I read the truth about that when Rick Rick publishes that truthicon_lol.gif

I BEG YOUR PARDON? I wish no physical harm upon any member of the US Congress. I may wish them an election defeat, but bullets to the head are nothing I would ever conceive nor condone.

This is the United States, not some banana republic. We handle things with ballots, not bullets. I think you owe some of us an apology for that remark, sir.

Of course the one to blame is the one who pulled the trigger. However, a lot of the blame goes to right-wing hate speech that's all over the radio, internet and Fox News. It's a constant, paranoid message of how the evil liberals and "Socialists" are taking over and ruining the country. A lot of people have no other news outlet and it can warp the mind.
