Just a note that I've started a new Twitter feed called LiftingOver50, following my experiences as a weightlifter over 50.

Care to tantalize us with some of your posts here? I mean, if it's not too much trouble.

Could be. It's mostly a daily chronicle. Not advice, since I'm not a trainer or any other sort of fitness professional. But I'm hoping it might encourage some others not to be intimidated by the gym.

I think Twitter is a great tool for keeping track of your workouts or food intake. Most people have cell phones these days, so no need to carry around a notepad and pen. Just send a text message from your phone and be done with it.

Glad I've got a trainer who knows that when you get older "no pain, no gain" is, well, rather stupid. Pain can definitely mean Stop!

I have been running for 1600 calories per session for the past few weeks. It's kicking my butt. I think there may be some truth to the idea that it takes longer to recover when over 50.

Under the weather. No gym today. I'm a firm believer in not overtaxing the immune system with a workout when you're ill.

Skipped 7 a.m. at the gym because of foul weather. Glad I did because bus route was blocked anyway at Ave & Dav. Madman had stolen a snowplow, went rampaging, and hit a cop with it. Cop taken to hosp, vital signs absent. Suspect shot a few miles away later. cop died in hosp.

Cardio day. Always loosens me up before a desk-bound day at the office.

Thank god I wasn't abvle to sell my exercise bike. Monday morning's forecast with a windchill of -30C. So gym workout will turn into a home cardio day, and skip the long walk to the bus at 6:30 a.m. in favour of the shorter walk to the streetcar and subway direct to work at 9. Workout, yes! Frostbite, no!

Reconnected with my chiropractor today after 1.5 yrs. Getting back into a regular program with him. Good for correcting imbalances, improving strength and productivity in the gym.
