Makes a lot of sense to me.
Because of the reputation and circumstances, there would normally be more concern. Just like during WWII, Germans were more likely to be suspected and racially/ethnically profiled as were Japanese.

What you're saying, is that prejudice is okay.
Because prejudice has happened before, it's okay now.
So, does the fact that gays have been subjected to prejudice before make it okay now too?
Or do you think that it's okay to be prejudiced against some people, but not others?
And, just because something is what "it is" - that doesn't mean it has to stay that way.
We can make it better.
Or at least try to.
Rather than just callously accept it and say "that's the way it is".
