Good Grief

My boyfriend of 3.5 years ended it with me a couple of days ago. This has been the most serious relationship I have ever had with a guy. We knew each others families and friends. Our relationship wasn't perfect, and we had our differences but for the most part I thought we were happy. Now, he says we don't have anything in common any more. I love him enough to let him go but have felt pretty shitty about it for the past couple of days. I feel hurt and alone mostly because I honestly think he was the first man I could have envisioned sharing life, children and a family.

How does one just pick themselves up and dust off when the man of your dreams just ups and leaves you?

I was in a similar situation as you about a year ago. I'm sure many here have experienced the same, or something similar.

The good news is that you're only 22 years old so you still have lots of time to find another man.

You'll feel shitty for a while, for several months perhaps. He might even appear in your dreams and haunt you for months like it happened with me. You'll just have to take the pain, and one day you'll wake up and you'll be able to move on, when you are emotionally ready.

You're alive, your world didn't shatter (well completely) after he left so you just do what you can, try to recover and hopefully find someone better next time. Good luck and well get over in the time you need to, but make sure you don't pass a good opportunity when you see him.
