Christian73 saidRiddler - You really need to get a grip. You can keep trying to suggest or accuse me of saying "Sarah Palin caused the shooting" or whatever bug is up your ass, but I'm talking about the atmosphere of our country today, not a report from 11 years ago, or your specious arguments that neither the culture, nor politics, nor media has changed since the Mayflower docked.
You vapid attempts to excuse and defend the vile statements of your idols is increasingly both craven and farcical. You claim on the one hand that we know little about the shooter and then claim he was "apolitical" (a ridiculous contention given that he tried to kill a Congresswoman, not the barrister at Starbucks, and his YouTube videos were full of anti-government rhetoric), then cite an 11-year-old report from which you've cherry picked a few stats to prove that he's picked a random target.
The lady doth protest too much. I'm curious where I've ever said he was apolitcal? Get a grip? Heh, what a bizarre world you must live in to be able to make up facts to fit your argument. And in the face of new evidence that contradicts your view of the world, find it necessary to continue to contort what you think you know to fit that view.
He began being obsessed with this woman in 2007. Yes, she was a congresswoman. Yes, he was anti-religion, read Mein Kampf and the Communist Manifesto - not exactly right wing literature either. You;ve even acknowledged his left wing anarchist tendencies. The irony is that I don't even think that Palin should be President but people like you make me reconsider the idea because it is those like you who make up arguments and force reasonable people to actually think about how much crazier her opponents are.
As for cherry picked stats - try bothering to read it. The point being that these attacks rarely have anything to do with external stimulus. To claim otherwise in the face of no evidence is what is "craven and vile" especially in the face of tragedy.
You cited articles with Loughner's "friends" saying he wasn't "into politics, didn't watch the news, etc." And there are no new facts that contradict my worldview in an 11-year-old article that is about generalities and not a specific person's reasons for shooting a Congresswoman. Do you know any schizophrenics? Because I do, as well as bipolar people. And, while the "external stimuli" doesn't cause their illness or the focus of their delusions, BUT they can be provoked and agitated by external stimuli. Now, Loughner is not talking so all we can do is speculate.
And let's not pretend that some on the left jumped to conclusions about Loughner in an vacuum.
Byron Williams was caught on his way to kill the Tides Foundation staff following Glenn Beck's targeting of them relentlessly on his show.
Prior to 9/11, the worst terrorist attack on American soil was committed by a right-wing, anti-government lunatic: Tim McVeigh.
George Tiller was assassinated by a right-wing pro-lifer following Bill O'Reilly's relentless attacks on him as "Tiller the Baby Killer"
Tell me when the last time a left-wing assassin targeted a right-wing politician or government official following relentless violent and dehumanizing rhetoric by liberal pundits.
As to Loughner's reading list, he also listed Alice in Wonderland, Gulliver's Travels, and (gasp) an Ayn Rand book. Now who loves Ayn Rand? The left of the right?
And if you're willing to vote for Palin to get back at me, that says more about you then me.
