I'm all for the bill proposed in the link below to get passed, and I'm sure it will - bipartisan support!? That doesnt exist anymore! But after all, no one really likes those ruckus causing basterds anyway. Gotta admit though, it is an interesting violation of first amendment rights. Anyone have anything interesting to add?

    Good for them!

I just read that whole article and what's left of my hair is standing on end. How could they say that about a little girl?

Do a little research on them, they've said worse things. I think they just do it for the attention.

I thought that people might be interested in a development. I don't recall reading this elsewhere on the site (though there are numerous threads on the subject... so I may have just missed it.)

Westboro baptist had agreed to not picket after the Edge (a Toronto radio station) agreed to give them a platform to basically read a manifesto. I have mixed feelings... but hopefully they will be able to have a funeral in peace.

In an interview with the Star, Blundell said management at Corus Entertainment, which owns the station, “was okay with it because Corus Entertainment is run by people with humanity... We were able to help a little girl’s family grieve her loss and we were able to do that by allowing a lunatic on the air to talk about why she thinks it happened,” he said

Wow, I wonder what the bureaucrats are going to say about that as more than likely she's going to use the word faggots and say they are hated by god.

This could potentially result in something very bad for free speech, as much as I want to see them censored. I think it should be addressed as harassment rather than free speech, but only if it is within a certain distance. They should not be disallowed from picketing or saying what they want, as long as it is not disrupting or interfering with the ceremony (in hearing range).

Hmmm, perhaps we need a letter writting campaign? Most CHORUS radio stations have an "audio archive" that I could search and decide whether or not I feel "offended." If she used the word fagot, you could write in as offended, and I think that I will write in and be offended if the interviewer does not agree that she is with God on this issue. I will pose as a religious nut who feels offended that she did not go far enough in her hatred...icon_razz.gif

i was proud and pleased with the reception some of my relatives in the McAlester, OK police department might have given them when they had the assholery to picket the funeral of their fellow small town military man who gave his life for his country!
