So it seems in a good majority of the profiles on here most guys, muscular or not, leave the "Arms" measurement consistently blank. I was just curious as to some of the reasons why? Is it bragging? Or embarassment? Guys don't know how to properly measure? Just curious....

I think measuring your arms is quite difficult to do when you are on your own. All the other measurements can be taken quite easily however the arms is different and i'm too embarrassed to ask a friend. That may be why so many are blank.

I just don't have numbers for the stuff I don't bother to track.

I think it's partly because many of us have no need to know what our arm measurement are. We all know our height, most people know their weight, our waist is important for finding pants that fit, and the chest doesn't fluctuate a huge amount--and is a standard measurement for finding a suit jacket or the like. Arms, though? I've never needed to know how big my arms are, so that isn't a number I can rattle off off the top of my head. Anything that's going to take work to obtain is less likely to be filled out. If the profile asked for calf measurements I bet those would consistently be left blank too.

Because it has little true relevance unless you're a competing bodybuilder.

A 16 inch bicep on me is going to look pretty big, a 16 inch bicep on a 6'6" guy is going to look small. So I've never bothered to take the measurement, though I could guess.

I agree with many of you... I honestly couldn't care less what my arms measure. :)

I'm sure it matter to some people, and I certainly am not making any judgement on others, just saying that for myself it just seems silly.

I don't measure anything because becoming huge is not my goal, and my hard-gaining ectomorph body won't allow it, anyway. I want to look like a swimmer or a gymnast, not a bodybuilder.

i'm glad you asked this question. because i was actually wondering the opposite. personally, i don't give a rat what my arm's (legs, waist, neck, chest, etc) measure. i care about strength. and like paradox i'd like to look and be as strong as a gymnast. and if you're not a competitive bodybuilder or a tailor i don't really see the reason to measure your body parts.

There are all sorts of body types, so measuring one part in comparison to the overall proportion of the rest doesn't make much sense.

Well, I agree with everybody. Pretty much. haha

    I feel that...

    1) Individual measurements should be taken into context with all other measurements (i.e. "big guns" on a short guy would/should be different than "big guns" on a tall guy).

    2) For the average guy, you probably don't care unless you're doing some sort of competition or athletic event and you need to monitor your progress.

On the flip-side, measurements can be fun. They can also be inaccurate. But on a site like this, I do think they're appropriate.

Now if I could only find my measuring tape... ;)
