    was all a fake out

whole thing was a fake out ... everyone chill http://thestir.cafemom.com/entertainment/114994/breaking_news_new_zodiac_signs

Today much of world's blood pressure went through the roof with news that our astrological signs as we know them are all wrong. People were ready to end relationships, remove tattoos, and hawk heirloom jewelry because of a "new" report that the earth has moved on its axis and is now out of line with the stars. But astrologers are calling the new zodiac signs 2011 bogus, and say we all panicked for nothing.

In an article titled Here We Go Again with the "Zodiac Is Wrong" Scam, astrologer Rob Brezsny explains how this isn't the first time panic has set in about zodiac changes, and why it's ridiculous.

"News Flash: The zodiac isn't wrong. Your sign isn't changing. Ignore the misinformation."

Oh how I want to believe him and go back to my Gemini status, but how can he dispute the sage wisdom of scientists?

He says it happens about once a year, and minces no words about how he feels about scientists meddling in astrology. He specifically calls out Parke Kunkle from the Minnesota Planetarium Society, who's behind the recent bout of hysteria.

"I understand that scientists like him would prefer not to lower themselves to the task of actually doing research about how astrology works. But if they're going to question its foundations, they should at least learn it well enough to know what they're talking about."

He says Western astrologers don't do their work based on stars, but rather on "the patterns of planets and the moon as they pass through 12 zones defined by the relationship between the Earth and sun." He said while the zones have the same names as constellations, they're not related to them. Therefore, no one's sign needs to change.

And Brezsny is right, this has happened before. In October 2007, Live Science published an article titled Your Astrological Sign May Not Be What You Think It Is. It basically contained the same information we're panicking about today, but for some reason didn't erupt into mass hysteria like today. I'm guessing that has something (or everything) to do with the growth of social media like Facebook and Twitter. How many posts about the new zodiac signs of 2011 and Ophiuchus did you see today?

So, phew! it sounds like we can all relax, and go back to our original signs and personalities if we choose to believe astrologers. Gemini, I'm back! But if you were digging your new sign and choose the more scientific opinion of astronomers, then have at it. And if on a day you don't particularly like your horoscope, feel free to choose the other one.

Are you relieved to know that your astrological sign can remain the same?

Anyone who panicked is retarded anyways.

I heard about this earlier on today when I was chatting with a (molecular biologist?) She was quite concerned and could not wait to get home to "look into how she could possibly not be a [fill in the sign here.]" She is convinced that she is the quintessential representative of her sign. To be honest, I was a little taken aback how somebody who spends her entire day researching how the body works on a cellular level and the interactions of substances on that body could be so ruled by the stars...

The point is this: sometimes Scientist = Astrologer...icon_twisted.gif

Unless I am mistaken, that fish thing is where this entire rebalancing of astrology started. You see, the astrological charts had to be rebalanced after they found that Pisces fish thingy was among the 2 million that were found dead in Chesapeake Bay.icon_eek.gif

The zodiacs have been wrong for hundreds of years, its not bullshit but just an ommited 13th sign named Ophiuchus/Serpentarius. If there had been 13 zodiacs the segments that make up the 360 degree rotation of the sun that the signs are based on would not be even 30 degree segments. The sun does in fact pass thru Ophiuchus' constellation but for whatever reason Ophiuchus was never named as a zodiac. Some western astrology and Japanese astrology has been accounting for this for many many years. Not news.

In fact the sign of healing that modern hospitals use is a sort of derivative of this constellation. The winged staff with the serpent coiled around it (which is sign of healing), comes from this or I should say confusion with the rod of Asclepius/Staff of Caduceus.

Ophiuchus/Serpentarius I've been telling people about this for years lol. About damn time someone recognized it as a sun sign!

I told you the Doctor was born under Ophiuchus...even while he was flying around in the Tardis.

I just can't wait around when all the stars will be invisible because the universe is expanding.

I liked my friend's Facebook status:

Omg people. The new astrology calendar doesn't apply to you! Your birth sign is your birth sign it's not changing. The calendar changes for new people born. Stop freaking out.

Not that it will change your sign either. Because it would still be based on planets and their suns, not the stars in the background

But anyways, i'm beginning to repeat this too much now... getting tired, keep thinking you know what you're talking about mate.. I dont care

This is only adding to the confusion... the caduceus is the staff of Hermes, not Aesculapius!!!! They mean entirely different things in Greek lore!!!

    ONe snake = Aesculapius = healing/medicine

    Two snakes = Caduceus = trade/commerce/communication/thievery
