"I told all of our guys, shut up, tone it down, make your argument intellectually," Ailes said in an interview with Russell Simmons, the global hip-hop impresario, that was posted at Simmons news site, GlobalGrind.com. "You don't have to do it with bombast."

Rather telling. But if FOX "News" hosts started making their points intellectually, most of their viewers would be completely lost.

And quite a few of their critics would be more than completely lost.

I'm going to quote Pooh Bear and say, "Oh bother".

Instead of being happy, you must find something sharp to poke at those trying to raise the bar on discourse. Consider that there are a lot of conservatives that will welcome intelligence. If the stupid are no longer catered to they will have to start using the brains god gave them.

Ditto to some of the liberal extremism.

You know Q has posted an admirable example of the two sides coming together for a common cause - mental health.

I suspect that many, if not all, CEOs of news organizations, not just FOX NEWS, reached out to their staffs with requests to tone it down. This is a good thing. I would like to think that the tragedy in Tucson was a wake-up call to everyone that it's time for the harsh political rhetoric on BOTH SIDES to be toned down. It should be noted STILL, that there is no indication that harsh political rhetoric, images, ad campaigns, charts with targets, etc motivated and/or influenced the shooter in the Tucson tragedy in any way.

Well the US advertising industry is estimated by worth somewhere in the double digits of billions annually, so it works or no one would spend or invest in it. When any political or media person speaks publicly, it's advertising a POV....and advertising works.
