I remember John after he and Daisy took over from Bob Sagat. Here's a fun commentary from him:

Hysterical! The whole Bible thumping world should be tied up and forced to watch this as an educational tool.

this was very well said !!! Having been raised going to church and educating going to private Christian Schools, I've learned over and over again that just about anything can be either JUSTIFIED or CONDEMNED by bible thumpers. The Older I get the more obvious that is.

"Do not lie with a male as one would with a female."

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Leviticus_18As noted in the separate article on Leviticus, the book uses the word "abomination" 16 times, with the Hebrew word "sheqets" being used in describing dietary prohibitions (for example prohibiting shellfish and pork), mostly in Leviticus 11, and once for physical uncleanness (Levitcus 7:21), while "tô‛êbah" is used often for idolatry (Dt. 32:16) and specific other sins (Deuteronomy 24:4), for people who disobey God (Deuteronomy 25:16), and collectively for lists of sins.

So, since dietary prohibitions of pork and shellfish and being physically unclean are no longer being enforced (and are CONSTITUTIONAL), homosexuality should be only banned for the strictest Orthodox Jew and the occasional religious nut.

Anybody know what exactly is the verb used for "lie" in Hebrew? Does that just mean lie in a bed or lie on the floor, i.e. having a romp in the hay is OK? Lie with a straight guy but not having sex with him (like as in with other women that the homosexual usually doesn't have sex with)?

If my idea of lying with women is not to have sex with them, then I'm exactly doing what I'm NOT doing with women, i.e. having sex with men. So I'm perfectly in the right! icon_razz.gif

Is it just with a male animal or does it have to be a male human? What about a male Vulcan? Or my male dog? I should only sleep with a female dog in my bed (even if we're not having sex, which is prohibited by the next few verses)? icon_eek.gif

At least that's my strict interpretation of the text without actually knowing any Hebrew. icon_rolleyes.gif

I believe bestiality is forbidden in the Torah. Generally frowned upon by PETA too.

Who said having sex with the dog? I just mean that I can't sleep in the bed with the dog next to me. So much for getting warm in winter unless it's a bitch! icon_razz.gif

Regardless, it is forbidden if it's "as with a woman." So, no farting.

    http://www.stjohnsmcc.org/new/BibleAbuse/Leviticus.php
If translated word for word, Leviticus 18:22 is roughly ‘And with mankind you shall not lie beds (plural noun) a woman/wife (singular noun).’ This final two-noun phrase is unclear in the original Hebrew; it is shared with Leviticus 20:13 (yet sometimes translated differently in the two verses), and it doesn’t occur anywhere else in the Bible. Although ‘beds of a woman’ seems to be the consensus for its meaning, other prepositions and relationships are also possible. The obscurity of this phrase opens the way for a wealth of different translations among which, out of tradition, a single basic line of thought characterizes English translations.
    ...
Alternatively, the verse could be interpreted to produce ‘And with a male you shall not lie [in the] beds of a woman,’ which is to say that if two men are going to have sex, they cannot do it in a bed belonging to a woman, i.e., which is reserved only for heterosexual intercourse.

OK, so it seems that it's limited to the "bed of a female"--so sleep away in a male's bed! Just don't do it in your mom's bed! And no threesomes! And lesbians are in the wrong!icon_twisted.gif
Or if you do it with a female's bed, don't use 2 of them.

I forgot to mention, what about a male Neanderthal? (since they are not strictly human, and the technology to clone a Neanderthal should be here in, oh, 30 years)

This is probably the most sane, logical, unbiased commentary on the issue of homosexuality and the Bible that I've ever seen. Wasn't out to bash gays OR Christians.

Neanderthal bones were buried by Satan, as a test from God. You'd be stepping in a heap of shit with that hypothetical.

Vicious circle: Ignorant people use the Bible and the label of "Christianity" to bash gays. Gays, understandably, then hate the Bible and "Christianity" and dismiss it. The true meaning of the Bible and true Christianity is therefore lost to gays who are the very people that Christ would have loved and hung out with. All on the account of the douchebags who twist everything to suit their own hatred and prejudices all in the name of Christ. Things have gotten VERY lost in translation from Jerusalem to the United States in the course of 2,000 years. Jesus hung out with the "sinners" and "outcasts" and couldn't stand the religious people of his day. Jesus wouldn't be welcome in the doors of Westboro Baptist Church, nor would he want to enter those doors. They are the modern day "brood of vipers" as he called the religious people of his day. Sad. Very, very sad.

    OK.

q1w2e3 done melted my brain with his twista-bible verses lol...

The way I've always read Lev. 18 was that the "abominations" and other laws which formed the 613 or so laws of the Mitzvot were just for the Jews.

Most of these laws were not so much done away with as they were set aside for Gentile (goyim) Christians in the first century, with only New Testament prohibitions directed against eating eat sacrificed to idols, eating blood, and abstaining from idolatry.

Later Pauline letters (particularly throughout 1 Corinthians) addressed issues of sexual immorality - not specific to homosexual or heterosexual matters.

The one man/one wife restriction (1 Timothy 3:2 and Titus 3:5-6) seems to be more of a requirement for pastors or leaders of a church, or as found in the KJV, "bishops" (Greek: episkopos)

Another thing that is an abomination - something that has ensnared all of us whether we be homo- or hetero- or anything in between:

Proverbs 12:22Lying lips are abomination to the LORD: but they that deal truly are his delight.

    Everyone's a loser by that rule ;)

Actually, it appears that the word used in this proverb is different from the one used in relationship to the one in Leviticus referring to males lying with males:
Tōʻēḇā (in the proverb) is more of a moral wrong, while
Shiqquwts (in Leviticus) deals more with ritual cleanliness, dietary restrictions, etc.

Sex being an appetite, it's only consistent that some people have different dietary tastes than other people.

Not sure why you would say that. Even if you don't put stock in the Bible, there's plenty of extra-Biblical documentation of the existence of Jesus. It would be more intellectually honest to dismiss the idea of God as a fairy tale than the existence of Jesus.
