Yes, I'll yet again waste more of your cybertime with this topic of zero importance in the greater scheme of things, lol! Okay, here's the deal...

I get that many men on this site are trying to project this "masculine, str8acting" thing but one thing I have noticed which bothers me is that, well, the majority of men on here are claiming to be Tops when it comes to sex. Now, if we're all tops then that's hardly gonna work, yet this seems like a common thing with gay guys (at least with "butch" ones): everyone claims to be a top! Really?!? All these guys really enjoy it only like that? Sorry, but is this really true or do we gay men still have hangups about our sexuality and associate being a top with being a "man" and a bottom with being the "woman?" Is someone claims he's a "bottom" does he suddenly become less attractive to you, less a "man?"

    ???

Jackal.........me thinks you think too much! lol

".... I have noticed which bothers me is that, well, the majority of men on here are claiming to be Tops when it comes to sex."

I'm not sure why someones "preference" when it comes to sexual position would bother you in the least. If this were the only dating pool there was it may be an issue not of preference but of practicality. Since most of the men who chat in these forums will never meet each other....I'm sure there will be plenty of bottoms in their area to satisfy all the tops.

I think you are looking way too deeply into the gay psyche...and when it comes to sex it ain't that deep
If you have a top there has to be a bottom that goes with it....Otherwise there's no meaning to the definition

You're joking, no? I don't count that many claims of topness in the profiles I've viewed. Lots of blanks, lots of versatile or variations of it (top/vers, btm/vers, combustible/vers, wet noodle/vers, etc.).

I don't know, seems like a good forum for that since fitness is tied (for gay men) to issues of masculinity...this "top" thing isn't such an abberation. Then again, haha, it's not that deep really. Just trying to get the conversation going. :)

No Jackal, I do agree. And people who think you are delving too deeply into the "gay psyche" maybe just don't delve far enough.

Many Biblical scholars believe that the root of the Bible's admonition against homosexuality is due to the patriarchal heritage of the Bible. Receiving another man is a "woman's duty." If a man did that, he lowered himself.

I bet a lot of that still exists for people unconsciously. I think it's an interesting topic.

I agree and interesting topic, if not necessarily related to this site. I haven't paid all that much attention to who listed what -- and in personal experience I have found that most people are fairly flexible depending on the situation.
I don't know how many of you read the Atlantic Monthly's article on homosexuality in Saudia Arabia a couple of months ago, but it talked about how most peole there list (on websites) themselves as tops, and that if you list you as a bottom you get many more responses. Also historically in the Middle East topping someone was considered hypermasculine. The Turks have had a long have had a long tradition, probably a remnant from pagan Greek times, of homosexuality which is why it is one of the few islamic countries where same sex is legal even if a homosexual lifestyle is considered aberrant.
I think there is definately something appealing in the diea of dominance. If you want to stick with the Middle East you can find that T.E Lawrence's description of his sodomization at the hand of Turkish commander. Or in a much more civilized fashion in Naguid Mahfouz's Cairo trilogy where the character Ridwan learns about sex from a powerful pasha(again their is a Turkish overlay in Mahfouz's Cairo). Or closer to home with Obscenewish wanting to have a go at Mel Gibson, or f**king Republicans without lube -- in jest of course -- but sounds appealing I have to admit. There is a certain amount of arousal and sense of masculinity in dominating someone.

My response is that any boy and plow a hole, but it takes a real man to take it up the butt. Of course, if none of the people plowing holes were men, I would be SOL. Because I dont care for boys.

To be a really good top, I believe you have to bottom now and then. Keeps you in touch with what the bottom needs and makes you a superior top.

I'm not so sure about those who are only tops...I'd have to test ride to have a complete opinion about their individual skill levels. ;o)

JC you are right on the money, the ONLY way to be a good top is to bottom sometimes.

Errm, and as someone who used to be regularly referred to as a "power bottom" back in my single days, I can also tell you that there's more to being masculine than just sticking it in.

I think that you, Jackal, hit the nail on the head. That's how I used to think before I came out, because if I didn't bottom then I wasn't really gay. But you know what? Curiosity got the better of me one day, and I explored down there, and I liked it. My thoughts then wandered about the possibility and once I tried it, I liked it. I'm comfortable with myself that I can enjoy it.

And, that comment that it keeps us in touch when we top, totally agree.

very interesting... the guy that mentioned the biblical reference has done some homework; very good point. there is certainly some validity to his claim. most guys "CLAIM" to be a lot of things, be it good looking... intelligent... funny or a top its all a matter of opinion. i think as men, we have a need to give, but its those that have discovered the power of being a bottom that own it and well... ive thought about it. Im tired of doing all the work and being a power top.

Being a bottom is fun because you dont have to do anything, the top does all the work... well for all but that one position, but Ive never done that position. I like to just lay on the bed like a dead fish and take it all in. Its so relaxing - all the pleasure without work!!

The Bottom just lays there??!! Damn kid, you must be a lousy Bottom!

I believe in versitility, it allows for a more intersting time. But I can fit the bill of PowerBottom too, when I want.
