Any ideas? We can do this Fri., Sat., Sun., or Mon.

=====>EDIT: Scroll down for new date and time.<=====

Fallback plan is to all meet up at Pease Park. Each RJer can bring a toy (frisbee, football, ball and glove, hackey sack, whatever) and a cooler containing their favorite beverage.

But first does anyone know of something else going on we can all descend upon?

Saturday would be the BEST day. I work M-F and have weekends free.

I can bring whatever beverage in any type of cooler. Food? Well, that would be a complete picnic. Pease Park sounds fine to me. All I need is a map.

I don't know Austin too well for activity ideas. But it would be nice to relax in AC after spending the day in the sun.

    Did someone say swimming pool?icon_wink.gificon_wink.gif

Try and schedule some in advance a couple of months. I wouldn't mind coming to one over a weekend, but I'll have to plan for it...

Well the game starts at 6:27pm. I just spoke with the owner of Rain and they will be playing the game. I am gonne hit the gym and swim and then head downtown. I will be at Rain watching it 7ish. So if anyone wants to join me, the more the merrier.

We could still plan something for the weekend. i just am suffering from March Madness and this game should be good.

Anyone on here go to Splash? We could have an RJ area at Hippie Hollow for that.

I haven't been watching basketball much lately so I'll probably pass on Rain. But I'd hang out tomorrow, depending on what and where. I don't have specific plans, so I can be flexible. Trying to cut some fat so I'm drinking a bit less these days but I'd probably still hang out at a bar and have one. Or I'd go do some fun sport thing, but I guess it'd have to be indoors.

Pissed about the weather. I'm finally back on my bike and it won't stop with the thunderstorms. Come on.

The weather is kinda gloomy in these parts. Dunno about Austin weather on Saturday.

I'll wait and see about the weather issue. If is does not clear up a bit, I may have to postpone and prep for the April meet.

Weather doesn't look too bad. Looks like it will be just like Friday. Yeah, it might be fun to either grab a bite or play some sort of sport. I'm not a huge drinker, so a bar isn't the #1 destination for me.

Sorry guys I don't live in Austin anymore. I lived there between 1993 and 2001. I am just going to say that I got tired of being away from home and found life in Austin very uncomfortable and lonely. It is next to impossible to make good friends in Austin because your city is so transient. Most Austin natives both gay and straight impressed me as very arrogant with an I don't give a shit attitude. I also think that Austin is horribly overrated.

I am not sure what the point of your post is? I think you have shared your views on Austin before. Sorry it did not work out for you. I've lived here from 1996 - 2000 (fun) and from 2006- present (harder to et ingrained, but such a livable city) I've lived in several cities people love and just did not feel I belonged. Eveyone is differ. I guess your post just seems like unneeded sharing of negativity for the sake of being negative. Especially, when the point of these meetins is to foster more interaction and love of our WONDERFUL city.

I encourage all Austin/texas RJers to "come on down". Austin has a lot to offer as do its people! Friendly

So what is the deal with today. Gonna be tied up at the gym until around 1pm. But would be open to something after or tomorrow. I did not make it to the bar last night.

Sorry to hear that you experiences in Austin were less than pleasant.

Austin is one of the best cities I've ever been to, and one thing that impressed me was how nice and wonderful and down-to-earth everybody I encountered was. Definately not arrogant.

Visitng two of the gay bars on 6th street (I think) I was truly amazed at everyones willingness to engage in conversation instead of standing and posing.

I have such a deep love for Texas, and some of you know that I'm looking at moving to Dallas in the fall. So I'll be with you guys for your meet-up in spirit.

    Go Longhorns, hehe.

Hahah. Roadbike, sorry you didn't enjoy Austin. That must have been rough after 8 years.

I don't know about the transience, though. Most of my friends in Austin kind of got sucked in and seem quite intent on staying. I've lived in places where the community seemed much more transient, anyway.

And I love the climate and community. Yeah, people routinely comment on how friendly Austinites are. My parents came down and were blown away, compared to Boston where it's a little more distant. I think the climate has a lot to do with that -- warm-weather clothing makes people feel more naturally open than big parkas and gusting blasts of snow to the face! (I grew up outside Boston so I'm not hatin' -- I love New England. It's just cold!)

The gay scene here is definitely a little weird, but I think it's just the lack of good geographic centers. Other big cities have neighborhoods that are just known "gay neighborhoods" and Austin kinda doesn't. I think the lack of mixed residential / commercial hurts (Dallas, SF, etc. have a more nearby blend.)

Maybe we Austinite RJers could do something about that? Buy up a bunch of real estate in Clarksville area or something and start spreading the word? icon_smile.gif

Anyway, I'm still game for something maybe tomorrow, or whatever. I like the idea of a regular Austin RJ get-together.

    Guys:

Didn't mean to be out of touch on this. I spent most of yesterday at the County Convention as an Obama alternate (never used). Plus I've been having a family issue to deal with these past few days.

Anyway, how about we postpone this until Thursday, April 3? I know it is after the last day of the month but I think that's okay this time around.

    Time: 6pm
Place: Pease Park (1100 Kingsbury St., Austin, TX)
Bring: A toy (rugby/foot/basket/soft/base/soccer ball, frisbee, hackey sack, glove, bike, etc.) and some cold beverage (my cooler will have beer). No glass bottles. Koozies encouraged.

This is not a picnic, but there are grills nearby. If you want to bring food, feel free but leave me out of it. :-)

Afterward we can probably move on to nearby Austin Java Co. (healthy) or The Tavern (sporty) for food and drink.

Keep replying to this so it can stay on the home page all week. Thanks.
