Dead lifts using a Smith machine?

    My new gym doesn't have any Olympic bars so it's difficult to do deadlifts. I tried using a Smith machine but it seemed awkward. What would you guys suggest that I do instead to incorporate deadlifts WITHOUT using an Olympic bar?

    Yeah, it is definitely awkward because it doesn't allow you to move naturally. Use dumbbells instead.

    If you want to increase proprioception and functional stablity you can try single leg one dumbell deadlifts. These are great for athletes.
