I recently relocated to the heart of San Francisco, and now I'd like to find a good primary physician. It's hard enough to find a doctor that will take time with you, let alone one that is knowledgeable and friendly to gay guys. Can any locals recommend a good doctor?

The Gay and Lesbian Medical Association (GLMA) has a provider directory that you can search to find physicians in your area:

Thanks for the link. I'm a little surprised how short the list is for family practitioners in my area.

Keep in mind that that website is not exhaustive. There are many LGBT-friendly physicians in SF. Hopefully some of the RJ members who live there can provide you with personal referrals.

i think you would be hard pressed to find a doctor who wasnt gay friendly in the heart of san fransisco. i never thought that city was any gayer than chicago or nyc or even parts of boston (certain parts..well one part) but its definetly liberal as fuck. just out of curiousity...what would a gay (or 'gay friendly') doctor be knowledgeable about that another dr wouldnt?

I agree that the knowledge of physicians shouldn't differ based on their sexual orientation. Some patients are more comfortable with certain personal characteristics or qualities in their primary care physician.
