Okay so I'm gonna post this here and it might seem like I'm showing off, but I'm just very proud. I realized that yesterday it was four years to the date since I started to work really hard to change my life and lose weight/get in the best shape I could. I had always, always been extremely overweight since I was young (I was known as "the fat kid" in every group I was in, LOL). Four years ago I decided to change that.

Kharlo,
They say the first five pounds and the last five pounds are the hardest to lose. You have conquered both. Stand tall and be proud.

Awesome job man! That's great that you made the decision to take control of the situation.

You should take a few pictures of you smiling! For all your accomplishments, you don't seem look that happy about it! (j/k, I'm only jealous because I can't pull off the sexy serious mirror pose like you.

Excellent job Kharlo! I think it's great when people can share stories like that because it inspires other people who want to do the same thing. My partner and I love watching "The Biggest Loser" and seeing how much weight people have lost and how it's changed their lives.

Being healthy is one of the best things you can do in your life. It's preventative medicine for so many health issues. You will literally save money as well by not having to deal with health problems that you would otherwise had to have dealt with. Plus you look and feel great too!

Keep up the good work!

That's great. Genuinely inspirational. Especially since it took 4 years -- long term goals are so hard to achieve, and require true discipline.

Absolutely amazing and worth every minute you spent in the gym and every minute you deliberated over what to eat.

Your transformation is nothing less than stunning. You have a hell of a body now, one you deservedly can be proud to show off!

Thanks for all the AWESOME words you guys! They make me feel all warm inside, heh, heh!

I feel great. The best part is I sometimes run into people who I went to High School with and they're like: "ddddaaaammmnnnn what happened to you? You look COMPLETELY different." I just smile about it .

*HUGS* for all.

P.S. As for the hat she's wearing (that's my mom) it was at Universal Studios and she just wore it for fun (I think it's Woody Wood Pecker).

This is something you should be very proud of and who could blame you if you wanted to shout it out from the rooftops, so to speak. Let everybody know of your extreme dedication and perserverance, show people that it's not impossible, and who knows...you may motivate someone to do the same.

Congrats! Be proud.

One of the best initial posts I have seen for any thread. I think this is what RealJock is all about, inspiration, accomplishment and reward (which includes all the posts above).

I just wish all the over-weight guys that were scared off by Chunkystud could come back to see this.

Super Job!!

Thanks again guys! A lot of people around me told me I'm an inspiration. I don't see myself as an inspiration, but hey if it'll help them to fight for something they want then I'm glad I can be a part of that somehow. It's a really good feeling because sometimes people will ask me (without knowning that I used to be overweight) about whether "it truly is possible to achieve anything we set our minds to" and I know that I can reply "yes" to that without any doubt.

*HUGS* for all, again .

Kharlo109I learned a lot. Specially the meaning of hard work and that life only gives you as much as you're willing to put into it.

Your learning speaks volumes to anyone trying to get fit whether your the skinny kid or the fat kid (I was the former). If you just decided to accept as a "truth" that you were going to be that "fat kid" the rest of your life, you would probably still be that guy today. Instead you made a conscious choice, decided to change, and put obviously your heart and soul into it -- and made it happen.

WOW!! - and look at the results!!! So incredible! Now everyone can see the real you... Your BEFORE/AFTER photos made my day! You are a testament to the power of the mind and body! Outstanding!!

Thanks love! Yeah I used to hope that it would fall out of the sky and somehow I would just get in shape. It's sort of like when people complain that they never reached their happy ending in life and the fact is that no one ever promised us such thing. Nobody ever promised me being in shape. I had to get up and do it myself because really at the end of the day you only have yourself to be accountable for and you have to be able to change your world.

I just woke up one day and realized that my body is mine and I had live with it for the rest of my life. If I'm going to be stuck with my body, I better keep it in shape and keep it healthy. Again, the usual (as cheesy as it sounds) idea of our bodies being our temples.

Don't get me wrong, you'll fall flat on your face a few times along the way, but hey...it's worth it.

I started losing weight four years ago and I started hitting the gym hard two years ago. I think since I started the gym I've only ever missed two weeks and they were medical emergencies (one was minor surgery and the other was this past week because I as sick enough to have a fever). It's not about overkill, but yeah, tenacity is probably about 80% of the battle.

Again, thanks for all the kind words guys. I really, really appreciat them =]

Truer words have never been spoken. I have made reference several times in the last week to Kharlo's before/after post, but it's because I think his transformation has been so incredibly inspirational. It shows us all what dedication and determination to see a goal realized can do. Kharlo has done it and has shown us the amazing result. Great work!

Heh, I'd never thought I'd be an idol to anyone in my lifetime .

But you can do it. I know it sounds corny, but honest answer is "you can do it." You just have to keep going everytime you fall and learn with each mistake. You sort of have to live, breathe, and eat this. It's hard at first but once you set it into motion, it's completely worth it.

At first it was a bit of struggle because I had never been to a gym or really worked out, but I wanted the goal badly enough to make the sacrifice. At this point I hit the gym every week without failure and it's not a "chore" now. At this point I see my gym time as "me time" and it's my therapy for keeping sane. I could't live without it now.

These past three or four months for me have been an immense emotional struggle with everything happening in my life. I keep strong because there isn't much other option, but the interesting thing is that whenever it gets too bad I just think: "time to hit the gym." Even if I'm pushing myself to my brink when I work out (which I tend to do very often, to be honest) it's still one of the most relaxing things in my life.

So while at first it may be difficult and daunting, just remember that if you stick to it your chances of getting in shape are not a dream, but very, very real and tangible. You will eventually reach a point where it's not even about the weight loss anymore. You'll reach a point where your body will almost physically and psychologically miss the gym and your work outs (and it's a good thing).
