Aight so there's probably been a post of this topic plenty of times already but I'm new to this site and have recently become addicted to the gym and am eager to gain more muscle mass. I'm already drinking whey protein drinks but was wondering if the RJ community had any preferences of good, LEGAL supplements that have helped them.

You're not small though icon_confused.gif Why would you want to be bigger?

We're all "works in progress" in our own minds, but I want to echo what others have already said: you're definitely not small!

The most anabolic hormone of all is insulin, and you can buy it over the counter. However, improper use, like aspirin, Tylenol, alcohol, or just about anything you buy, can be fatal.

The main way to get big if you're at the low end of the weight chart is FOOD. Lots of supplements are JUNK.

If you want to look like the guy on the cover of a magazine, you'll have to use all the things they use.

Here's the standard weight chart for SEDENTARY men. Real jocks / athletes will be considerably heavier due to lean muscle mass.

    Time.

You said you've recently become addicted to the gym, so give it time. Eat right, lift a lot of weights, and sleep well. In layman's terms, in order to build muscle you break your muscles through lifting and as they heal...you become bigger than before. In order to expedite this process, you need to sleep so your body can repair itself correctly. If not, you won't put on muscle mass as quickly as you'd like.

    Get over it, young man.

You are right at about the ideal weight for your height. Your height, believe it or not is about average and you are, if your pics are yours, well set up in the looks department.

Small is not your problem. Lack of confidence it the difficulty and your need to work on it. No, I offer no suggestions, just that you concentrate on the real problem.

thanks for the responses guys..although not exactly what i expected. I guess I just feel relatively "small" compared to my buds i usually hang around with. Mainly trying to shy away from that "twink" label that seems to retain a negative connotation...at least on this site but not sure its really a confidence problem.

Just eat and lift. Maybe invest in weight gainer shakes. Creatine, which is what my former crush used (he's 5'9" and probably around 175 lbs with a six-pack), is completely optional although it may help. And it's naturally found in red meat.

Oh i feel your pain. I am 5'7" and 145lbs but I feel really small too. Most people just do not understand that. I couldn't find any supplements that can help other than increasing my protein intake through protein shakes and eating more carbs. Hopefully in a month from now I can see if this has been working.

If you get too muscular, you'll have to work out constantly to maintain the look. For instance, my friend is really muscular but when he doesn't work out for a few days he just looks bloated. Not a good look. Plus, when you get older you'll have those Arnold Schwarzenegger man-titties. You look great how you are now.

Hallmark insight and advice..... . Moreover, richhazel is right Arnie's gynecomastia may not be too much fun for anybody, albeit a lot of guys have it, clearly not a pedigree of manhood. Aesthetically, there's a myriad of dudes who would easily wish to have your problems. You look fine, I took "Swole" which has some Creatine in it, back in the day for optimal results, initially. Like Creatine, Swole is a bloated temp to use. Careful...icon_wink.gificon_wink.gif

Don't worry too much about what everyone says. While I do agree with them that I wouldn't consider you small, it really depends on what you're surrounded with.

I remember this buff guy was talking about how he got to a meeting early, with only one woman in the room. The woman commented that he was skinny. The guy was insulted and flexed his arm for her and asked if it looks skinny to her, to which she replies, uncomfortably, no. Then all the other guys came in to the meeting, all of which were very fat. The guy realized that the woman must be surrounded by enough really fat men that a muscular guy like him would seem skinny to her.

Anyway, back to your question at hand. I can't really give much advice on supplements, but just try to eat more. Eat more meals/snacks or bigger portions. For example, drink 1 1/2 servings of your protein shake instead of 1 serving, or eat a second breakfast an hour after the first. Be careful when you eat bigger portions because I've heard from multiple sources that your body can only absorb 50g of protein per sitting.

You could also look around for mass gainers, they're more convenient than regular meals and much more calorie-dense than meal replacements or protein shakes.

RealJock.com isn't the best site to look for advice on supplements. You'll find more information on http://www.bodybuilding.com, the #1 online supplement store as well as source of training information. You could always post your question on the forums there. Just don't reveal that you're gay because there will be trolls and lots of immature kids.

Another possible website is http://www.musculardevelopment.com. They are very supportive on the used of legal growth hormone boosters or other muscle-building supplements. I think they are secretly supportive of the use of anabolic steroids as well, but I wouldn't know because I never gone through their website. I'm sure they'll have lots of information on testosterone boosters as well as growth hormone boosters, they have articles on that subject in their magazine afterall.

I hope this helps. But why would someone like you listen to a "skinny" guy like me. :-P
